He's basically Matt Mauck 2.0,
Mauck threw 28 tds his last year, with 14 ints
Etling is nothing like that
Yes, they both are white

His skills are limited but I think his teammates can see his toughness and heart. Fans will be always be after the QB but if your team has respect of the QB that means alot. When Harris was throwing high you can tell in his WR's body language they had no faith in Harris.

to be fair, that could be attributed to the offense

Peoples complaint about mauck was he was too risky at times

Mauck was better athletically. much better arm, shiftier runner. I think Etling might prove to have a better feel for the passing game though.

Can you imagine if this board existed back in Mauck's days? Or Marcus Randall? People here would have crucified both of those guys.
it did. they caught their fair share of grief, especially Randall.

I'm a DE fan, but he laid a goose egg vs. Bama. If he hadn't badly misfired on a couple of third down passes, there may have been a different outcome. That one pass he short-armed to Dural (I think) on third down would have gotten us inside the 40 and a chance to score. He did not stand up to the pressure in that game at all.

I don't think nobody necessarily thinks DE isn't a good quarterback but, he's definitely limited. Hopefully the competition for the starting role is wide open and I'll support whoever wins it(to the best of my abilitiy).

Just imagine bh6 playing every snap at quarterback. His throws 3-5 ft too high, setting recievers up to be killed or being intercepted. His throws that were behind or short. His bad mechanics.clock management. What would our record be?
That should help you to appreciate Etling

I just want the best player to play

I don't have a problem with him. He's serviceable.

He has some limitations on deep and even intermediate throws but I still think people are selling him short. There are a lot of passes in the endzone that he threw perfectly were only his WR could catch it (Chark vs Miss State, Dupre vs Arkansas (?), Chark vs Auburn, Gage vs ATM). He has more accuracy and control of trajectory than he's given credit for.

He played really well in the A&M game.

He's not named Matt!

When it boils down to it, does anyone see us winning a championship and beating Alabama with Etling?
I dont.
And does your crystal ball see us beating Bama with the likes of a Brandon Harris? Hell, he struggled against the mighty Roosters of Jacksonville State.

I can't believe some of u are still talking about JJ. Worst QB to ever play at LSU!!!!! He could not even start in high school in Bama.

NO issues whatsoever with DE, and I'm glad he will be returning next season. Guy is tough as nails, and smart with the FB. He has moxy, is mobile, and other than the Bama game, he does not get rattled. He manages our plays/OFF very well. With an offseason with our NEW OC and talented receivers, he will be even better. Returning talent on OFF side of ball is impressive. Need to convince Dupre to stay another year, and collectively the coaches/players need to put a 'CHARGE' into our OFF. No reason we can't be dynamic and balanced next season.

Because he's a mediocre QB at best, and if he were black you and a myriad of others would be calling on Ceauxch Eaux to bench him.
