Too bad Daddy Dale didn’t give him some tips on shooting free throws. Would have won LSU three Championships!

I thought that was the story too but he tells another story where he was annoyed that Jackie Sherrill went to some other RBs signing day in Tomball and he changed his mind.

I don't know if any of this is true, or just sour grapes, but Y.A. Tittle was supposedly going to Texas? or was it A&M? LSU coaches went over there and kidnapped him out of his dorm room and brought him to Baton Rouge where he went on to a egendary career. Maybe someone can clarify the details for me?

There’s a similar story of John David Crow moving to LSU and aggies grabbed him and took him to A&M.

Chris Jackson was down to two schools - LSU and Ole Miss. The Ole Miss staff goes to see him one last time at his dump of a house in Gulfport. They pull up and a brand new Cadillac in the driveway. The HC for Ole Miss is pissed and tells his assistant that after their meeting, he’s calling the NCAA and turning in Dale Brown. He’s sick of this shite.

They go into the house, brand new furniture and then into the kitchen, brand new appliances and the HC tells his assistant the same thing.

Chris tells them he’s going to LSU so they get into their car to leave and the HC tells the assistant to stop by a pay phone so he can call the NCAA and turn LSU in. The assistant tells him; well I just want to make sure you’re aware that those new appliances came from us.

I always liked Harvey Williams’ story about how he was all A&M and he changed his mind almost on signing day.

Was it Harvey that committed to “University of LSU”?

Billy Sims was from Hooks, Texas.

Eric Dickerson is who you are referencing - was given a car by aTm (gold Trans Am as I recall), but ended up at SMU.

There was a recruit that ended up at Michigan, I forget the kid’s name but he was a little white fella that gained notoriety as a HS RB hurdling other kids and being super fast….took him to Tigerland and he fricking puked out of every orifice that night and ended up not committing. Also ended up shitting the bed at Michigan, so good for him lol

Terry Bradshaw has a recruiting visit set up with Bama and Bama with Bear Bryant on the plane is supposed to pick up Terry and his dad at the Shreveport airport. One of Bryant’s assistant Coaches mom passes away and the funeral is the same day of Bradshaw’s visit. Bryant felt like his assistant needed his support so he went to the funeral and had one of his other assistants take his place on the flight.

When the plane arrived, the assistant explained to Terry and his dad what the situation was and that Bryant would meet them in Tuscaloosa. Terry’s dad said that his expectation was that Bryant would be there and since he wasn’t, they would not be taking the trip.

Bryant rescheduled so he flew back and apologized and then laid out why he decided to stay in support of one his coaches. He then told the Bradshaws to pound sand and got back on the plane and left.

K’Lavon Chaisson was scheduled to visit another school, I think it was Florida, and he was leaving on an early flight.
Coach O shows up at his house at 5am and tells him not to go on the visit, and K’Lavon listened.

He was a 5-star and one of the first recruits to have a highlight video go viral in the early days of youtube.
He was a bust as a football recruit but he made the US Olympic bobsled team and competed in Seoul in 2018. Along with a degree from Rice he’s probably doing ok for himself.
Aggies thought he was a lock for them because he grew up in their backyard, I remember they melted significantly when he chose Michigan.

I know of a South Louisiana player who was being recruited by BYU in the late 80's Lavell Edwards came to their house and asked where were the gators at? He expected them to just being running around in people's yards.

Never heard that one. But LSU did steal Y.A.Tittle from the Longhorns the same way.
