To clarify, I was born on barksdale airforce base in 95.

Ever since I can remember, I was being taken to LSU games by my dad. I was hooked immediately .

Hell, I remember being in the stands for several games, one of which my dad got nailed with a whiskey bottle, turned around and highfived the guy after a TD.

Sense of family is the best word i could use for it. I live in georgia now due to my parents divorce fricking it up and im pursuing a degree in fire science here as opposed to going to the school I bleed for.

Just saying.. non alumni can definitely live purple and gold just as good as one who went to the school (lucky bastards).

Makes me angry that half my family is in Louisiana while im stuck here. I miss the tailgates every weekend like it used to be sometimes.

Luckily, ill be at the opener next year

This topic would go better on the Bama board.

and yes, you don't have to attend, or have attended LSU to be a fan, that's an asinine rant thing, oops sorry for being redundant

I grew up watching LSU and going to games in the early 90s. I moved to Texas in high school. I don’t ever consider myself less of a fan because of that.

LSU has had a major role in my life even without me attending.

Ive gotten through some pretty bad situations by gearing up and having a blast at tailgates. Never felt more comfortable than in that stadium.

great part of the fan base

that being said, they can NEVER appreciate the experience like one who attended and graduated from the University

My dad cares more about LSU than anyone I know and he didn't go to college. And he's spent A LOT of money supporting the Tigers, so I'm sure he'd say that anyone that believes he shouldn't be a fan can kiss his arse.

I've never been a member of the New Orleans Saints organization and I'm a Who Dat for life!

we have a portion of the fanbase who have never been near Louisiana...thanks to games being broadcast on WWL nationwide back in the day... most of them are beginning to die off and clear channel AM stations are disappearing from the spectrum

Been bleeding purple and gold since the day I was born. I planned on going to LSU since I was a kid. Was gonna be a drummer in TGBFTL. Even through high school, it was still my dream. I got accepted into LSU and even got a book with all of the cadences. But when it came down to it, I had to go a different route because they didn’t have my major (Industrial/Process Technology). Plus I had TOPS, but I was going to be paying out of pocket for school. So I decided staying home for college would be the best decision financially.

I go up to BR every Saturday that I can. Even if I don’t go to the game, it’s still fun to see all my old friends and tailgate.

I think you’re only considered a sidewalk or t-shirt fan if you DONT meet any of the following criteria

-Attended/attends LSU
-immediate family attended/attends LSU
-Contribute to LSU (tuition for family, donations, or buying tickets)
-Live in the area
-Grew up in the area

A surprising amount of Bama fans wouldn’t make this list.

My uncle tried his damn hardest to convert me to Auburn when i was little.

I remember having the choice between an Auburn cover and an LSU one for my bed and i almost puked at the thought of sleeping with an auburn one, I jumped right on the LSU one. Ah, memories. #youtried

I grew up in BR and in TS. LSU is in my blood and I give thousands of dollars to LSU every year. I love it when people tell me I am not a true fan because LSU canceled my preferred major in the early 90s.

Nah going to brcc bc LSU is asking for an arm and leg. I'd absolutely love to go to LSU but with the profession I'm trying to go for (teaching), I'm gonna be paying off loans til I'm in my 50s.

imo, has no bearing whatsoever in being an LSU fan, there are lots of reasons that people don't or can't attend LSU, your example is one of them, a few of my friends that are just a couple of years older than me are some of the biggest LSU fans you'll ever run across, they were all set to attend LSU when they were summoned by their uncle to help him out with a little problem he was having in SE Asia a few decades back

I don't know what the consensus is but I know that I don't give a damn about whether a fellow Tiger fan is someone who never registered for a class or someone with multiple degrees.

All the Bama fans in Lafayette think the "life-long" part is unnecessary.
