re: What would you do to make Alex Box better?

Baum has some seats you just don’t want
No one was asking for something like DB. Just a place that kept pace. The new box doesn’t come close and that’s sad for a program like LSU. At least from a fan experience perspective. The player’s areas are still top 15. But many places have caught up and surpassed. That’s normal. The bleachers, batter’s eye, and ads were all second rate at the time they were built. And honestly, I hardly notice the ads. The old box was the same way. Doesn’t mean they couldn’t have made it less tacky.

Granted, I haven't been some years, but if still this way..
The shiny spearmint green walls instead of flat plantation green like MLB, the three different colored chair backs instead of just one, the lack of chair backs down the lines, lack of OF berm, unsightly gap between boxes and grandstand, OF bleacher setup, lack of wood line to breakup yellow tin monstrosity in the backdrop(Ponderosa), SRO/Pub Table area, etc..
New Dudy Noble and also Founders Park >>>>>>>>> New Box

That’s right boy. Run from the argument you know you’re gonna lose.

I’ve sat in the bleachers 10 times. I’ve never wanted a chair back, the box isn’t some terrible stadium.

A new AD would make entire campus look better.

You want major improvements to the Box but you're too cheap, or poor, to pay for some of it yourself. You want others to pay for it for you.
Socialism at its finest. Loser.

And how much extra would you be willing to pay, either in increased ticket prices or an increase in your Tradition Fund "contribution" in order to buy season tickets?
It’s posts like this that piss me off. It shouldn’t cost a penny more! Why?
Because, LSU is already charging the highest donations for baseball, by far, than any school in the country and it’s not even close.
LSU should have the Palace of all Palaces with:
1. How much they charge for suites and donations for chairback seats. No one comes remotely close to what LSU requires.
2. LSU sells more tickets, by far, and it’s not close, over the course of a season than anyone else.
Forget the history and tradition that exceeds everyone else by far. LSU is already bringing in way way way more revenue than anyone else. It’s a joke how much more.

Additional construction costs would have to be paid for from additional revenues.
quote:I'd like to see a link supporting your claim. Just this past weekend the announcers covering the Mississippi State series were discussing the suite costs and the left field apartment costs and those sounded considerably more than what LSU requires. So, LINK??

LSU sells more tickets, by far, and it’s not close
Both Mississippi State (13,000) and Arkansas (10,000) have as large or larger attendance capacity than LSU. They sell as many or more tickets than LSU. Your "it's not close" claim is just not true.
You're likely comparing attendance numbers. LSU counts "attendance" as being tickets sold, not actual butts in the seats. Other programs count the number of fans actually attending their games even though they sold more tickets for the games.
Unless you can support your claims with data, I'm just going to assume you're posting from emotions and not facts.

A permanent Batter's Eye would be a relatively minor expense. Does anyone on the Rant know why this has yet to be done?

I keep seeing these post about where our stadium ranks within the SEC.
While I don’t have first hand information, I think I have better, which is a
players perspective. A friend of mines son is in his third year at TN and played
here last year. Outside of the new Dudy Noble, he has played at the other top stadiums,
SC, AR and Ole Miss. While each one had something really nice and unique,
he and the majority of the TN players liked the box the best. Second was Ole Miss
and we plan on meeting there for a series against LSU after his son finishes school.
Point is you can cherry pick amenities to show any other stadium is better than ours,
but it’s amazing that we rank in what I would consider a cluster at second considering
all those other stadiums had major remodels since the Box was built.

quote:I can't vouch for accuracy but when the new Box was first opened a story made the rounds that there is some underground infrastructure such as piping for sewage or a large water main which prevented a deep footing from being dug for the upright poles that hold the batter's eye.
Does anyone on the Rant know why this has yet to be done?
A metal batter's eye would be much heavier than the cloth version we have now and the additional weight would require deeper pilings which can't be driven into the ground because of whatever is beneath that area.
It sounded a little fishy to me but that was the reason given.

Posted on 4/2/19 at 10:47 am to LSURussian
That does sound fishy. I would think a reinforced mat foundation could be designed to handle any loads from a permanent structure.
Posted on 4/2/19 at 10:58 am to Brbengal
quote:Agreed. But I may not be remembering it correctly. The poster who gave the "underground stuff already there" reason claimed he worked for LSU or a company associated with the construction and that's how he knew his information.

Like I said that was posted not long after the new Box opened which was almost a decade ago.
He may have said the piping under the batter's eye could not withstand more weight pressing down on it so the cloth eye was the only option.
There has to be some reason because it wouldn't cost all that much to make the batter's eye appear to be permanent rather than the temporary look it has now.

Palm trees behind the Outfield fence

Here are some thoughts that I've seen in other places that I thought would work well.
- Consistent color for wall wraps (whether that be purple or a deep green)
- White ads on the walls
- Changes down the lines: remove first tier of bleacher seats and replace with chair backs (I believe you have to some bleacher seats in order to accommodate larger post season crowds). I tend to like the seating Clemson has in the outfields for a style that could be incorporated to replace the foul territory bleachers, even if it's detached from grandstand:
- Changes down the lines, cont.: remove the bullpens from foul territory; extend the protective netting all the way down the grand stand; build some type of cubbie under the outfield seating for the field tarp (New Dude has this)
- I've always loved the idea of outfield berm seating/gathering space with grills, picnic areas, etc. - elevating and moving the scoreboard back could help to accommodate this; Coastal Carolina's boardwalk style of outfield seating is a neat quirk:
- Would love to see a permanent batter's eye with camera well instead of that tacky metal tower they have next to the current batter's eye
- My piece de resistence: a multi-tiered restaurant with large balcony space. I know it's pie in the sky, but it could provide an interesting backdrop and give that barspace that we always want. Think SunTrust Park and the ChopHouse in RF:
