"What if" threads are so silly and useless.

Top 12-15 by now. All the upsets would have helped.

Don't you mean what would we be ranked if Verge was competent enough to include a clause in the fsu contract that both teams first game must be September 4 in the Superdome?

Do you have any examples of contracts with such stipulations, especially dating back to when this series was signed?

It’s easy to look back and say LSU should have won that game, but the reality is that they probably should have lost to Auburn. Those two results effectively cancel each other out. 4-1 is where they actually are and is a reasonable reflection of the overall quality of their play so far.

Of course I have no inside knowledge on the wording of these contracts.

How hard can it be to stipulate to the other school this will be both teams first game. If they balk, go on down the list and find someone who won't sneak in a game on us. It's called preparing for all contingencies.

Most, if not all coaches will tell you that a team improves IMMENSELY from game 1 to game 2. We've lost at least twice in the last 20 years when the opponent pulled this bs.

Don't you think that if we had played Southern before FSU, or if FSU hadn't played duqessney, that would have been worth at least 2 more points?

I’m not suggesting it didn’t have some impact on the game, only that this particular effect is not unique to LSU. The proliferation of Week 0 games is a relatively new phenomenon and not one that really existed at the time the UCLA and FSU contracts were signed.

Low teens sounds about right, considering we had no expectations coming into this season.

I specifically remember we played at VA tech back in 2002 in what was going to be both team's first game. In the spring of 2002, the hokies suddenly scheduled Arkansas St out of thin air to play the week before us.

That's been on my mind every time we sign to play a kickoff game. I would hope it would be on LSU'S administration's mind as well.
