how does catching passes against SLU gain you any confidence. Maybe would give you a false sense of confidence if anything.
It's an extra scrimmage with WR jams at LOS to get through to adjust timing, and other stuff like progressions, option route choices, etc.

ARE they even good enough to get a good practice in against or help us get better in any way? How and why did we wind up with SLU on our schedule? I just don't see what we get out of this game. There are cup cakes and then there is this. How do the players even get up for a game like this. To have a good practice you have to have the right mindset to where you have a certain concentration level and I just don't see that happening. I just see a sloppy useless practice happening that we get nothing out of and probably causes more harm than good.

We play against one FCS team every year dude. There's no need to get upset about this just now

I get what you're saying but good teams need to use the copcakes to work on execution vs someone other than their own team. Even really good boxing prospects don't start off facing champion level talent right off the bat. They face taxi drivers and scrubs to build confidence. Confidence matters.

If they take the opponent seriously it can be a huge confidence boost. It shows that the process works. If you don't take the opponent seriously and you just go through the motions, then yes it's a complete waste. So it shows where the team is as far as maturity goes.

Players generally have a poor barometer on how much effort they need to exert to perform well vs an opponent. So when their feelings of the opponent's capabilities doesn't match the reality, that's when you have let down games. This team shouldn't be taking anyone lightly.

SlU is not close to the level of troy st. Troy st would whip the CRAP out of SLU.

Troy st actually has some talent especially in the trenches and could put up a pretty good fight. SLU offers us nothing.

hopefully our DBs can catch some too there were interceptions to be had last game.

At least 2 missed INTs and 3 missed sacks at minimum.

With Aranda, I expect all of that to be corrected against Southeastern.

Well, if boxcar willie is serious, you're wasting your time. Every game is a chance to get better no matter the talent level of your opponent.

I'm hoping we can use this as a live practice and focus on our shortcomings and later in the game, get our inexperienced players a little game time.

A comfortable win where lots of players get PT
and no injuries.

I hope we'll see ALL the WR's on the depth chart to see if there are any extra sure-handed ballplayers in there.

that's what I am getting at. Just a live situational practice with our own players would be more beneficial. Let a lot of the starters and main substitutes get some PT against the developmental stage backups in live drills. Work on the passing game on getting some chemistry between Joe and the receivers. Let the Ones and two's and 3's who get Pt go against the two' and threes and 4's who don't really see the field much except for special teams. Do it in the stadium on Saturday night in place of the SLU game. Would be a lot more fun and exciting for the fans and more of a challenge and beneficial to the team. As a caveat , Brennan could get the start with the depth chart buried non playing backups. Would be a lot of fun to watch and much more of chanllange for the team.

Not only could we learn about some of these buried guys it would be a much bigger benefit to the staff in evaluating the game film and for moving forward against Auburn.
