Some of them have struggled with that for years. Kinda pitiful really. I'm starting to feel sorry for them

The truth is outside of Lafayette people are unaware of the "UL" movement. I lived there for years, so I know all about it. However, people here in Houston and other places have no clue who "UL" is.... Every mainstream sports site such as ESPN, Fox, etc refers to them as either UL-Lafayette or ULL. Until that is changed, don't expect to be called "UL".

i don't live in lafayette. anyway, i don't see anything wrong with pulling for the smaller schools close to your area. i love the tigers. in fact, i have a brick at mike's cage with my name on it. i pull for ull because i live nearby a div 1 university and my son loves the cajuns also.

I pull for the Cajuns as well. I just don't understand why some UL-Lafayette fans get so upset when you refer to their school by the official name.

This may come as a shocker, but for the most part, the same holds true about LSU A&M or LSU... once again---> :beatdeadhorse:

"Can't get over the UL thing huh?"

you know it's funny, if it were the actual state approved name of any 1 school I'd be ok with it, but just deciding to call yourself what you think you should be called makes you look even worse... Seeing as though it's against state law... Hey maybe you should check it out and educate yourself be ause obviously you are ignorant about the entire name issue Universityoflouisiana

Yeah, keep believing that. Why don't you go drive around Houston or cruise around Destin. You will see just as much LSU gear as any other school. You must live in a bubble or something strange like that...

It really is a shame, SLI/USL/ULL/UL has always been faced with an identity crisis.

yes, but the state has said lsu will be the flagship and will be the state university of Louisiana, Louisiana state university, and/or LSU. Different from ull the state Will not allow a regional college to use it's name without a city or region tag...they have a law saying you must always refer to yourself as ull and la-Lafayette.

Don't have to drive around Houston or anywhere else. Worked in Houston for 2 years. Yes there is plenty of support there for LSU, most of which are grads of LSU who migrated there for oilfield related jobs. You must live in a bubble also to believe nobody from Houston has never heard of ULL.

But in reality this is the big picture. Both are fine institutions. Both provide financial support for their respective cities. Both have good athletic programs for their respective conferences. Neither school is better than the other. Its a shame some of the fans from BOTH schools give their universities a black eye with bad sportsmanship from previous games. Folks, its just a game. You win some, you lose some. I for one have no envy for LSU/BR or any other school or city. Sports isn't my life. My family is.

not true at all.... I live in Tennessee, and everyone knows who LSU is. You also see LSU stuff everywhere up here. I have never seen a ULL thing at all up here at all, and have never even heard them brought up in a conversation. LSU is a national name, ULL is a name known across 5 parishes and thats about it. ULL fans cant seem to grasp this though.

I've never quite understood the "LSU A&M" rebuttal from ULL fans. Unless I've misunderstood, the name of the entire institution is Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College. Although in the US we tend to use the words university and college interchangeably, most of the rest of the world and US academia give separate definitions to the two.

Put another way, I'm an alumnus of Louisiana State University, not the A&M College.

But like I said, I could have misunderstood.

Neither institution is better than the other???? What??? Lsu is tier 1, ull is tier 4??? Am I missing something? Lsu is better in every single category listed... Academics, athletics, facilities, etc.

Yeah your right some people that are ignorant don't realize that there are about 20 colleges that make a large university like LSU example lsu college of business, lsu college of art, a&m college at lsu, medicine, law, etc. There are about 5 colleges that make up ull... This is why lsu is lsu, and ull, mcneesr, tech are regional schools.

No doubt plenty of people around here either went to or know of ULL. However, a lot of them don't know that the University would rather go by UL. That's the only point I was trying to make. There are plenty of LSU and ULL alumni here in Houston.
