The first few rounds today teams will take picks on high school players they think have a shot at potentially signing later on in the summer or at least taking a shot at someone.
Teams may not even be in touch or they may know a number a kid wants and will try and work other picks in round 1-10 lower and then make an offer later.
Usually around round 20 teams just take flyer.
If someone signs outside of the top 10 rounds that should have been in the top 10 rounds it means they came down on their number.

Yes, it’s inevitable that some of the needed attrition is going to come from the signing class and not be draft related. That’s the one that wouldn’t really sting, everyone else seems to have upside that you may regret not waiting on to develop.
