I didn’t hear that number. But he could still go after 10 to a team with a lot of money to throw around.
What number did you hear on him? What are some teams we are hoping to avoid?

On the MLB website draft page under the "Top Available" tab it shows Zach Watson at #7 and Zack Hess at #14 on their list.

Phrased poorly by me. I didn't hear any number with him. Project posted a list of the teams with the most bonus money available. I think it's in this thread.

To an extent. Players aren't taken on a "best available" basis (not that they ever were really) once you hit round 4 and teams go after the cheap seniors to save some cash for the later rounds

At least now there are guidelines in place for teams to stay within. If they’re going to throw 7 figures at their 31st round pick you know exactly what they have to save elsewhere to do it.

I think we're getting into Hess and Watson coming back territory.

I'm not sure I completely understand this. If they want to throw a ton of money at 31st round pick then why not draft him in the 4th rd and throw a ton of money at him? Is it only because if they don't sign him then they lose out on that slot money?

I can't do it all day. I've been doing some, but it's been overlapping. I'm happy to let someone else handle it.

Yes, they can essentially see what they can save and then make a run at players they took fliers on later in th draft without the risk of losing any of their pool allotment.

Overpaying for one of those isn't very smart because you'd be leaving money on the table either in basic savings or losing an opportunity elsewhere. It's not where you want to take a chance by not getting to a guy's number because if you don't hit it, then you're fricked.

None of them because the TD experts say they are to small to be any use to the LSU baseball program, so how could they be any use to MLB?

Because it’s a draft and you are competing against other teams, so a prospect that top 40 likely won’t be passed by all other teams 3-4 times.

Yeah I checked Cabell and the most significant thing I learned is he hit 3 HRs against a juco team a few months ago.

quote:All season we kept reading that Watson was a 2nd round pick with a possibility of going in the second round compensation or sandwich round (not the right terminology but you get my drift) or maybe the 3rd round at worst and I kept saying I just didn't see him going that early.
I think we're getting into Hess and Watson coming back territory.
Of course, my history of draft predictions ain't that great, but it looks like Watson's draft stock dropped as the season went on.
