Umm we just fired our last coach for doing that. The precedent is set. We have the talent.
We fired Les because of YEARS of underachieving with great talent, YEARS of terrible offensive production, and inexplicable aversion to change. You guys really think Orgeron is shown the door after an 8-4 first year?
I certainly didn't want Orgeron, so I'm not knighting for him now. I just don't think there is any way in hell he'll be fired at 8-4.

Damn sure should be.

Does Orgeron survive a 6-6 or 7-5 season next year?
No. Both get him fired, IMO.

I agree with you, but can you imagine the backlash if LSU fired a first year head coach that went 7-5 or 8-4 playing an SEC West schedule?
Not firing a coach for going 7-5 actually makes us look dumber

I dont care how many wins LSU has, first year goal under Orgeron should be to win the west.
This is a true goal. Win the west!

This team will have enough talent to win at least 8 games.

Yep, and that's why O had better win more than that.

Haven't we had this discussion already?
I'm fired up for the Orgeron era and think he's going to do great, but 9-3 is unacceptable next year and 8-4 should be fireable. Hell, 10-2 is going to piss me off given our schedule. Who the hell are we losing to outside of Alabama? We should be favored in every game except possibly @Florida, and after how this year played out with those fricks, that's going to be a bitter defeat.
Stidham makes Auburn a little more scary on paper, but we should still beat them at home. We haven't lost to Auburn at home since 1999.
4-8? 5-7? Are you high? If the season is heading in that direction, then he shouldn't even make it to the A&M game. As others have said, two of the big draws for O were supposed to be no drop in recruiting and continuity heading into next season. For those reasons, combined with the fact that we are actually returning an effective qarterback for the first time since Mett, I'm sky high about next season.
Like I said, I'm an O supporter. Jimbo was my top choice, but he was tied with Herman for second in my mind. But he has ZERO slack. Why should he get any pass whatsoever? He coached 7 games this year and the team looked outstanding in 5.5 of them! Teams change coordinators and position coaches all the time, and the expectations from fans don't take a hit. Hell, we got a new DC last year and everyone still expected us to contend for a playoff spot.
I hope someone can explain to me this loser mentality of there being leeway in this hire.

Orgeron is not getting fired for going 8-4 in his first year. Come on. We're losing a ton of players and quite possibly completely changing our offensive scheme. Miles was fired for a consistent trend of mediocre/above average results, a unwillingness to change offensive philosophy that was clearly holding us back, and a 2-2 start with national championship caliber talent. Orgeron will have a season or two before elite results are expected from him.

NO ONE gets fired after 1 year

There is precedent for a firing after one year.
I agree with the poster that anything worse than 9-3 should start warming his seat. Frick all of this expectation lowering. If 8-4 was ok then we should've kept Miles.

He will survive 6-6.
Alleva will spin it as a "rebuilding" year.

The last college coach I can remember getting canned after 1 season is Ellis Johnson, who took a 12 win team to 0 wins. That's about as extreme a circumstance as could exist.

Win over the gumps and no less than 11 wins.

It will be hilarious to see Alleva try to spin the following year, which likely would be even worse.
You let O get away with 7-5 or 8-4, he will think he's untouchable and it'll really go downhill fast.

Why is 8-4 good enough now?

So are you saying 6 keeps his job and if he only wins 5 you think he's canned?

Wait so you are expecting him to crap an SEC champ QB, are you expecting a freshmen to do it.....yea I know Alabama has one but they are loaded at every position four deep. Also all he has to do is be better than 3'rd in the west and he beats Miles over the last 5 years...
