Our defense was still giving up 30 points per game in the conference with the Co coordinators. No way we win 10 or 11 games more like 8-4 or 9-3

That defense wasn’t THAT bad,

#32 in total defense.
#56 in scoring defense
#63 in red zone defense
#73 in passing defense
but a least we #17 in rushing defense

That was not good. Particularly by LSU standards.

Who knows and who cares at this point.

Probably a better record than we had but we wouldn’t have been sec or national champs.

I think Les got PTSD from all the pick 6's that year and changed his coaching style after that. So the biggest impact might have been in later seasons

I agree 100% with this.

When Les left he had a rep of being overly conservative and not having a clue what a forward pass was.

But pre- Jarrett Leer he was the mad hatter.

Post Lee Les Miles NEVER would have thrown that pass the Demetrius Byrd vs Auburn. But pre Lee he did that sort of thing routinely.

Maleveto is not winning a national championship even with Burrows.
One reason Lee threw so many interceptions was we had to outscore the opposition.

Not going out very far on that limb here. Lost by 14 points in this game, and there were two pick-6s thrown.

A pick-6 on the first play of the game...a third pick that eventually led to a UGA field goal.

So, that's 17 of their points coming after interceptions.

Why was that defense so bad when every single year from 2000 up to that point the defense was stellar?

That defense was not a good LSU defense. That offense was actually not that bad even with Jarret Lee throwing pick 6 after pick 6. I’m sure you have some more wins but I don’t think he was a difference in a national championship. I think the question is more what he could have done in 2009 as a senior with a year of starting under him.

It’s Burrow dumbass.

This is ignorant. The defense was not as good as years prior but outside of the Florida game there was not a game not winnable if we had competent QB play.

Lee threw 2 pick sixes against UGA which was the difference in the game.

Lee threw 4 picks and 1 pick six against Bama with another setting up a score. Take away those and we win that game.

Don’t come here with ignorant pieces of information, the defense was not the problem that year, nor were they the reason for Lee’s faults.

Dumb question? He was literally on the team until he got kicked off. He was the plan for QB after Flynn

So Lee threw a pick six on the first play of the game because he was worried about having to outscore the opposition?

What if Terry Bradshaw got into LSU.
What if Bo Rein did not die in plane crash.
What if Stan Humphries did not transfer.
What if Mack Brown or Steve Spurrier got hired instead of Curley Hallman.
What if Marshall Faulk, Ed Reed, Reggie Wayne went to LSU.
As a fan you can drive yourself crazy doing the "what if" game.
