We had a game moved to Baton Rouge in the last two years because of flooding.

People either don't realize or don't think about just how many volunteers, employees, and law enforcement it takes for an event of this size to run smoothly. A lot of those people won't have the means to get themselves to the stadium after this storm, whether it be their cars/homes flooded, an injury, helping those in need, etc.

Again, the flooding could be very widespread. Even southwest Louisiana could get catastrophic flooding. It's a very bad storm.

It baffles my mind that people don't realize the amount of work that would have to be done to move a game to a different location 8 days before the game is scheduled to be played; not to mention the inconvenience to the fans who actually travel to the games and not the ones who just watch on tv and don't care where the game is played.

Hot Carl dropping hot bombs.

If you seriously can't understand the economics of not moving the game 8 days out, just don't worry your brain about it.

We have no idea how much this is going to impact Houston at this point, so why make the call now?

And I don't know how many instances this line needs to be repeated.

Clearly, our AD understands the effects of major weather events on playing our games, it's not like he is ignoring this and not initiating conversations if no one else is

It's interesting to see people post about the cost and labor involved in moving the game, who do not understand the cost and labor involved in trying to conduct a game in catastrophic conditions.
And, yes, the sponsor could lose money if it cancels. Some of those losses are likely insured and they may lose even MORE if it is not cancelled.
Its entirely possible the sponsors and the City of Houston are praying for cancellation in these circumstances.

Do you understand how much money the two athletic departments have?

Who said the fans have to go?

You have to find a stadium and get the teams there

I don't think others realize just how big Houston is. It's not New Orleans, which is basically in a bowl below sea level. While there can be and has many times be flooding in Houston it does not submerge the whole city like NO in Katrina. The immediate area by NRG was not flooded the most recent floods the last 2 years. It is 8 days out there is no need to move the day today. It can be moved early next week if need be.

the storms stalls on shore we should be fine. That will give it time to weaken and the rain will not be as bad in Houston. its still forecasted to be out of Texas by Thursday.

So it would sit over Houston for almost a whole week. Do you realize how much damage would be done in that case? IF it does stall and sit over Houston until next Wednesday or Thursday, it could drop rainfall totals that have never been seen in the area before, not to mention the hurricane force winds.

This.

It would have to be a smaller venue or LSU or BYU's home stadium.

I think it's more than likely that the only way the game is played at 8:30 Saturday night is if it's played in front of a limited amount of spectators.

I'm not saying it's likely that will happen. Just that it might be the only way to play it as scheduled without enough volunteers, employees, and law enforcement.

Joe did EVERYTHING possible to have last year's Florida game played -- Sunday, Monday, fly in / fly out -- no fans, etc. It was Florida who pussied out and blocked us. I don't fault Joe. We have a fluid situation with potential Biblical rains that can affect everything. Let's hope that Houston can recover in 7 days, the teams and fans can get in and out, and the infrastructure can support a big event with tens of thousands of out of towner's pouring in and out.

Make a contingency plan. Wait and see what happens. It's mainly going to just be rain in Houston. Some flooding maybe. I think we still play there.

What legitimate reasons are there for not playing the game at BYU, LSU or neutral site?

Because there's no legitimate reason to not play it in Houston

AT THIS POINT!!!!

but, there should be contingency planning going on with a date announced for a decision...

if Houston gets the 20-30 inches of rain predicted, doesn't matter if the stadium is ok, the question is are you going to be able to get to it?

I live in Katy and with the city officials in Houston saying that pretty much anywhere in the flood zone south a Katy with be without power for atleast 3 days if predictions hold of rainfall then this game will not be played at NRG.

Its just logistics. The area around NRG will be without power and the city will cancel the event. LSU better have something right now as an alternate venue.

Just seems unreal that for a third year we could lose a football game.

I woukd rather the game be played than worry about who's gonna lose money. frick Houston and NRG. They should have insurance for the game not taking place there

I agree on waiting till the last minute, however they should have a backup plan in place now.

How do you know that they don't? Just because nobody called or texted it to you doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
