I read the majority of the thread and hadn't seen it touched on but the NCAA has a zero tolerance policy for drugs. They also don't need hard physical evidence to punish "alleged" violators either. What's to stop them from assuming DT did partake and determine he should be or should have been suspended?

ETA: just saw that themunch touched on this on the last page.

Do they ever get drug tested? Careful what you wish for. I would be willing to bet about 50% of all football players across the U.S. have or do smoke weed during their college careers.

Link?
Just because many teenagers smoke pot doesnt mean 50% of football players do.
Unless you have evidence of this (not Ranters saying they know its true) then its just speculation at best and slanderous against football players just to make yourself(s) feel better.

He is just trying to make it acceptable by saying that. It is pathetic how much the Oregon fans have tried to deflect the seriousness of a player going 118mph and smoking weed. They even believe that the car smelled like weed but he hadn't smoked for 3-4 hours. And that DT didn't smoke any

Has anyone defended Harris? No one that I know of has. He's suspended, indefinetly but absolutely for the LSU game. Fans may be dissapointed he is gone for the game but no one thinks he got more than he deserved.

That stop was not a rare occurrence in Oregon is what I am telling you.

Then I'm sure the Oregon State Police will be releasing a slew of dash cam videos of traffic stops where the drivers were pulled over for driving nearly 120mph at night, the officers smelled pot in the car, and the driver was driving with a license to help make them not look like they simply let off a group of UO football players...right? There must be tons of examples on YouTube at this very moment you can link to.

While it may very well be true that OSP may be far more lenient than police elsewhere, you're going to have to provide more evidence than your assertion that they simply way people along after stops like this if you want anyone to buy what you're selling here.

He got busted speeding. The cop, while briefing with his supervisor, states he appeared to have control of the car the whole time and passed the FST thust he reasoning for no reckless driving. He allowed a licensed driver to drive the car home otherwise it would have been towed. Pretty common occurence here. Oregon is a pretty liberal state and want of the leading states for Marijuana legalization, medical cards, etc. Cases involving marijuana don't go anywhere in this state unless you're a dealer caught with pounds of it.

When you all say that it is okay for the police to allow a guy driving with a suspened license, going 118mph, and smoking weed to go anywhere but to jail that is defending him and the police. There is no way any of you would not be calling for the policemens head if it wasn;t a star athlete. Is there a movement out there questioning why the police would not take this guy off the streets? Is the public not outraged? And how naive is it to think DT wasn't smoking weed?

Also you can defend someone by trying to belittle what they did. Oregon fans seem to have this "it wasn't that big of a deal attitude".

One of your posters on here is suggesting EXACTLY that.

I don't agree with what he did. The statements many Oregon fans have been making is that this is generally how things go down in Oregon. In Oregon you generally only get hauled to jail if you have outstanding warrants, talk smack to the police, or commit a violent crime.

Speeding tickets and traffic violations don't go to jail and weed is a non issue in Oregon. I know that's hard to understand being in a different state but in Oregon weed is more or less considered okay by the citizens and the courts. Crimes involving weed are prosecuted unless you're a dealer with considerable quantities.

That video would have been alot more interesting had the officer been a Beavers fan.

I'm surprised he wasn't, Albany (city Cliff was pulled over in) is pretty much the sister city to Corvallis.

Chip Kelly is a joke. Not that we don't or couldn't have our issues, but to sit there and all but give his blessings to that jackasses actions is comical. I wonder if Kelly's response would have been the same had his player killed one of HIS family members traveling that fast while he was high on weed. You may not like all of Les Miles' coaching, but I think those guys get the boot if they were Tigers.

A person commits the offense of reckless driving if the person recklessly drives a vehicle upon a highway or premises open to the public in a manner that endangers the safety of persons or property.  “Recklessly,” means that a person is aware of and consciously disregards a substantial and unjustifiable risk that the result will occur or that the circumstance exists. The risk must be of such nature and degree that disregard thereof constitutes a gross deviation from the standard of care that a reasonable person would observe in the situation.

I like how smack talking is a bigger offense than a triple threat driving incident. Oh but I forgot he had control of the car that he was driving at 118 mph so it wasn't considered reckless.
