This year reminded me of the 1978 season when we were "left at the alter" with no post season bid after an "emerging" season with a very similar record. The next 5 years brought 5 NCAA tourneys, 3 Sweet Sixteen, 2Elite Eight, and 1 Final Four Finishes.

If we can replicate that, then LSU basketball is back!

The interesting thing about this is the way "Joltin' Joe" Alleva and his buddy Trent "TCU" Johnson managed to downgrade our expectations so quickly. The SEC is not as strong overall as it was when Brady was here, yet I would be willing to bet that if TJ had decided to stay another year and stunk up the joint again, Ole Joe would have been perfectly happy with keeping him around.

Become a regular in the NCAA tournament. At least make it to the Sweet 16, if not further, perhaps a Final Four appearance or a National Championship.

I think we're a 4 seed ext year if JOB comes back. We'll be deep, talented, and experienced. Good big men, scoring big wings, and a solid PG. AND DEPTH.

Really,

Pull the top recruits from the region. If that doesn't happen then we are 2 -3 year of NIT at best. I like JJ but he has to get the best talent in the state and region into the program.

I'd like to make it to the dance 2/5 and NIT the other 3.

I would be sorta ok with 4 NITs and 1 NCAA tourney.

Failure to make the dance is just not ok.

I'd like to see a NCAA birth next year. Possibly contend for the SEC every year and hopefully win it once in those 5 years. Over a 5 year span I would say 4 NCAA births with a couple of wins minimum would be a success.

The next year NIT

that would be disappointing for next season especially if JOB stays

We would have to finish no worse than 4th in the SEC to go to NCAA. Kentucky, Tenn, Ole Miss, Florida, Arkansas and Vanderbilt should all have very good teams next year. Not impossible, but a disappointment depending on freshmen and transfer? All those recruiting ratings don't mean a thing until they prove they were correct.

Depends on the roster, but I'll be a little disappointed if we don't make the NCAA tournament next year.

If JOB comes back next year, I see us as a 7-12 seed in the big dance next year.

MINIMUM expectations for the next 5 years: Serious contention for NCAA berth 4/5 years. 2 NCAAT appearances with at least one win.

There are 68 teams in the NCAAT now, with 37 "at large" spots (plus 1 guarnteed spot for the SECT champ). LSU plays in a power conf. that generally gets at least 3 bids per year (usually more). No reason that the basketball program should not be competitive.

Minimum = for LSU to competitive in the SEC West and win it a couple of times.
Next level = compete and even win the SEC tourney more than once; get invited to NCAA and win one or more games.

Just FYI, there is no more SEC West in basketball anymore.
