Idk how some people are saying it’s only talent. Why are ALL DBs playing the receiver and not looking back for the ball at all? Coaching. Why are they playing 7 yards from the line of scrimmage? Scheme and coaching. Both of these things are big problems imo.

Is it lack of playmakers, youth, scheme, or maybe a combination of all three?

It's hard to say because things look so bad but I think the schemes themselves are not the issue unless you really think the players are incapable of executing them. The reason I say this is on multiple plays defenders run themselves out of position or fail to react properly to the offense.

I also think youth plays a part. All of these guys were top-level athletes in HS, even if they are marginal SEC talent (I do not hold to the idea we have little SEC caliber talent though we do have less than we were used to in every year from about 2000 to 2020 and maybe 2021). I think most of the DBs and linebackers were used to being THE playmaker on their team and seem to be trying too hard to be that guy at LSU. So they leave their assignment because THEY have to make a stop or they overrun the play trying to out-athlete the guy blocking them and get to the QB. Correcting that mindset is a job for the coaches and it is troubling that it continues to happen with guys like Perkins, who is in his second season. It's the kind of stuff you see little Nicky throw his headset for.

Just my take, it may be idiotic, I am not sure

Competitiveness. It's one thing to make mistakes at full speed. Our safeties have been regularly making mistakes while jogging.

On the micro level sure, but when multiple players do it across the field it is indicative of a greater problem with how they're being coached.

Seems like at this level the players must know how to tackle and it’d be hard to believe me they don’t practice tackling. Anyone know if the way they practice has changed? Like do they not practice full speed ?

We have the talent. We do not have a DC or coach. House needs to go North. He does not give a $hit about LSU.

Defensive rankings 2023 3rd down conversion: 117th 47% Scoring Defense: 105th average 31 points a game against Rushing Defense: 66th Passing Yards allowed: 108th 260 a game. Total Defense: 65th

Is this after the OM game?
If so I'm surprised the Total D we are 65th. I don't see how that is possible if they are 108th in passing D and 66th in rushing D.

117th in 3rd conversion....I believe that. Do these DC's look at these numbers? Can they see that what they call on 3rd is not working?

How can you possibly think that on 3rd 6, you DB plays 9 yds off the WR and then backs up more when the play begins. The DB is 4 yards behind the 1st down marker after the snap. This doesn't work unless you have closing speed of an NFL DB.

assignment and alignment = coaching

tackles, execution = players.

you don’t get to 117th in total defense with 1 issue.
