There’s a pretty good book about Bo Rein and the tragic flight. It’s called “Forty Minutes to Baton Rouge” by A. Zach Williams.

The serial killer years at LSU were wild. I had girls begging to walk them home, check under beds and closets. It was intense. Even had a professor lose her mind one night and ran out screaming because she had so much anxiety from it. She had to bring her kid to class from then on for comfort.

For me it has to be Bo Rein.

I will also second the Indian Mound death(s?). Happened the semester before Bo started at LSU.

Another one I would like to add would be the untimely death of Brent Rhodes, who was the Tiger Mascot. His death was right out of Final Destination.

There’s articles out there. A student was on the mounds when a drunk driver plowed into her and killed her. I think it was ‘85.

Courtney Elizabeth Smoak is the victim’s name. She was allegedly dating a football player.

I’m not going to say someone death is more tragic than the rest, but Carley McCord passing tragically in an airplane crash prior to the championship run in 2019, and Coach Ensminger keeping it together to coach his arse off.

That was devastating news at such a bright time for the family and the LSU community.

Even though it was a couple years post-LSU, let’s not forget Eric Andolsek. He and Don Redden are both there for me.

Bo Rein might have been Nick Saban in more than one way. Not only he could have possibly brought a NC to LSU, but I think his tenure at LSU would have been short lived as he would have headed north back to Ohio State when Woody was terminated. Like Saban, he would have left the LSU fanbase wondering what might have been.

Woody was already gone when Bo took the LSU job
