I will say it again. As long as u snowflakes leave the game early in the middle of the 3rd.quarter recruiting is going to be rough! Other fans stay to the end like we used to do before I had to leave New Orleans! I guess little Skippy's like a lot of u have to be home by ten o'clock!

IMHO the most simple explanation of what happened is the most likely thing that happened.

Alleva took the easy way out of the problem of replacing Miles. Alleva took O because: 1) O was already the HC; 2) hiring O would require no time-consuming and maybe expensive HC search; 3) hiring O would avoid some controversy and angst that might be directed at Alleva, at least for the time being; 4) O was relatively inexpensive; 5) lots of faith in the OC and the DC.

This is the most likely answer to the questions.

I'm fairly convinced that we ended up with Orgeron because Alleva was embarrassed when Herman played him for the Texas job. When that all fell apart, he rushed Orgeron to the podium before Texas could announce Herman to make it look like Orgeron was his choice all along and ESPN got it wrong

If we put any weight into that Hayride article, it didn't even appear that Herman's agent played Alleva for anything. Herman even said that LSU was the better job. It was just standard negotiating and Alleva lost his shite. Like how dare he negotiate with me. What competent agent wouldn't have brought another team into the mix to drive up his price a little more?

Coach O represented an easy, cheap, lazy solution. Study Alleva's history, and this will all make sense. That is Alleva's SOP.

Good questions. LSU suing John Chavis is one thing that might discourage some coaches from taling to Joe Alleva. Maybe coaches know what he did at Duke, and simply refuse to associate with a sociopath who will throw you under the bus?
Maybe you are right. Maybe Herman/Jimbo were never really interested? I agree with the suggestion re PJ Fleck; he seems very intelligent and fired up. To hell with all the ignorant trollers, dude. Keep posting the truth.

There were rumors on the coaches changing board that the LSU jet was in Oklahoma during the search.

Also, that Big Game Bob wanted a change of scenery when the season ended last year

Yes, we all know herman loved him some shorthorns but money talks man. Alleva got mad and took his toys and went home. Nobody here can speak with 100% absolute authority that both were completely off the table.
They were, period. Not from the get go, because there was, up to a point, a very high possibility of Herman. There then came a point where Herman was an absolute impossibility, and that point was reached before Alleva got mad.
