I don't like the offensive side of things because Mainieri is promoting past players to key positions. He needs to find a top hitting coach. Last year the hitting fall off.

What? LSU was 2nd in the SEC in hitting outside of Kentucky playing in a small ballpark. We were in the top 3 in most offensive categories.

Whole lot of turnover, but I still would expect to be a regional host, not national seed.

In 8 plate appearances last fall, Nick Storz had a BA of .000 with 4 K's, 3 BB's and 1 stolen base. He had surgery to clean up his shoulder and will be able to throw, for the first time at LSU, sometime this spring. Sadly, I'm not expecting for him to contribute much this season.

quote:This is spot on IMO. I think we hit for a really high average this year, but Pitching in all categories is a big question mark for me.
It is hard to tell without knowing what pitchers step up.
If the pitching is sub par, or takes a large chunk of the season to get it together then you can see a regional 2 seed.
If pitching is solid all year, regional host/fringe national seed.
The offense and defense will be as good as it usually is. It all depends on the pitching staff.

quote:This, IMO this season depends on the pitchers. We are going to miss the power of Deichmann, if Jordan can come back and post some really good numbers it would help tremendously. But in the end I think we are going to be fine offensively.

Projected starting lineup by D1 baseball. I can't read the breakdown because I'm not a paying customer. Maybe someone who is can copy and paste it. I'm curious as to Kendall Rogers detail of this team. Also not sure if his projected starting line up is pure conjecture or based on some inside information from LSU staff, probably a little bit of both IMO

Anybody hearing positive things about Storz? I know he can smash but is he a day 1 guy?
He missed most of Fall after surgery to remove a bone spur. He is a physical beast and I saw him smash one in the day or two that he practiced. Advocate article says he'll be back in March or April. LINK

We seem to always have a solid pitching rotation. I think that team will do well this year. I have great confidence in our baseball coach.

Shut up. You bashed him every chance you got last season. Don't bring your stupidity to this thread please.

missing 8 games in your overall record, 40-16 would look better for us.

Need a 3rd starter and a closer. If we find them, I could see us as a national seed. If not, well maybe a 2 seed.

Ahhh I forgot about that. That is exciting!
Anyone see Luke Johnson’s nugget on Hess from PM? Basically PM said the plan is for Hess to start throughout the season. Looks like he will be starting the 2nd game this season. PM said he was hopeful Hess could get 10-15 wins this season, pitch 100 innings, and have an era around 2.
Seems pretty lofty, but if that were to happen, I would think LSU would be a National seed. I have high confidence Gilbert will be All-SEC this season.

quote:I saw the quotes and that would mean very good things for LSU. But I'm not sure that would lock up a national seed. Gilbert is good and finished 2017 very strong but he's had a very inconsistent career so far. We are going to be relying on him heavily and I hope that's something he can handle.

Here’s what’ll happen: the rant will freak out over mid week losses, arguments will ensue, 75% of the fans will want Mainieri fired mid season, they’ll talk about how he throws players under the bus, then the team will catch fire, blow through the SEC tournament and Omaha, win the natty, then the entire country will STTDB
