"Lucky goofball that recruits well" Seriously, that is what many outside of LSU think of him and always will until he gets another NC all on "his own". I don't agree with it but it is what's out there.

His legacy will most likely be of a coach who was very successful but received a lot of undeserved/unfair criticism from people simply because they didn't like him.

And he will go down as a very misunderstood coach.....that because of his demeanor in public and in front of the media he is someone who condones mediocrity. That he is okay with coaches and players giving less than their best.

One thing Saban is a master at is controlling/presenting an image of himself as someone who is in charge and demanding of perfection of everyone around him. And fans like that.

I would have to question the SEC/college football IQ of anyone housing that opinion after how elite LSU football has been for 7 yrs and how LSU football is picked in the SEC and nationally going into yr number 8, but thats just me.

Now tell me about the the NC's. Bama was lucky to be there in first place and as far as the other one for Bama goes, any team could beat a RS FR making his first start in a NG after Colt McCoy got hurt early in the 1st quarter but some fans just overlook that.

1. Bama was lucky to be there? And we weren't lucky to be there with two losses at out NC?

2. Colt McCoy got hurt because Bama was mauling their offensive line. Texas had no chance in that game. In fact, Bama clearly went conservative after McCoy got hurt or the score would have been worse.

I have come to really appreciate Miles in the last couple of years, but you cannot argue with the 3 national championships, including an undefeated season, that Saban has. Objectively, Saban is the better coach. I think every coach, especially SEC coaches that compete with him, is in Saban's shadow until one of them wins more championships.

TigerVoodoo, That's one of the best pieces I've ever read about LSU. You should run that through an editor and it would easily be publishable. You'd have to get rid of the cussing, though.

what's Sean Payton's legacy if he never wins another super bowl slick???

Will he be remembered as a douche-bag who cheated on his wife, got a hoe preggers, created a system that paralyzed poor NFL players and popped Vicodin like I chew gum????

I await your answer

Les hasn't proved he can build any program.
OSU and their rise from the ashes says hello. You know the team that was #3 in the BCS last year. Who do you think turned that program around and started the winning tradition? Before Miles got to OSU they had posted 11 losing seasons in the previous 12 years. What Miles did for OSU is very similar to what Saban did at LSU.

Saban left LSU as a top 10 program in the country,
Maybe splitting hairs, but under Saban LSU's rank was only top 10 twice and an avg rank of 13.6 throwing out the unranked season.

Under Miles LSU has been in the top 10 5 times, and top 5 4 times with the avg rank #6, also throwing out the unranked year.
Miles took what Saban built and vastly improved it.

On a related note, what does he need to come out of Saban's shadow?

Yes they were lucky! They didn't win their division nor conference.

One of the best. ACC title at Duke, 6 SEC titles and 1 MNC at UF, Eastern Division title at SC. And lots of wins

Where did I say we weren't? However, we did win the west and the SEC that year, unlike Bama this past season.

All I'm going to say about that, before this turns into another 1/9 thread.

We were lucky there were no other deserving teams in 2007.

Bama was lucky the voters put them in over a more deserving conf champion.

So sure both teams were fortunate but only one team did not deserve to be in the NC game.

That would imply some other team should have been there instead.
LSU won it's conference. Are you saying LSU didn't deserve to be in the game?
Every year there is a scenario where if Team A wouldn't have lost, Team B wouldn't have made the NCG.
Who do you think should've been there in '07 instead of LSU?

My problem is for 1 game playoff, conf champs should only get invites, so UA didn't deserve to be there and the precedent shouldn't have been set with OU in '03.

Miles is out of Saban's shadow as far as I'm concerned . If he never wins another NC, I'll be disappointed but I hardly would call Miles a bad Coach.
