Some of us discussed this the other day and this just will not happen. Why do you think this plan was not even discussed for Arizona State in 2005? You have 70,000 plus season ticket holders and a neutral, piece of shite stadium that holds 55 K, if that. You would have a clusterfrick and then some. There'd be about 20 K season ticket holders who would be left out - probably being the WU non TAF members and then the low on the totem TAFers. Then, you'd have a ton of non-season ticket holders who live in Shreve and surrounding areas who wouldn't be able to geta whiff of a ticket and then they'd gripe because their city would be holding the event. Then, there is the issue of getting enough police and workers to show up, exchange off days, get out of performing their other job duty for that day, etc. Independence Stadium isn't a mecca of constant entertainment. Excluding the Indy Bowl and next door where the minor league baseball team plays, there are rarely big events held inside...no big concerts, other football games, or regular athletic outings. What I am saying is that there is hardly a stand-by list for workers who could just show up and work a Saturday for a moved football game with 4-5 days notice.
Take also into effect that the Indy Bowl is in an awful neighborhood, where there will already be a demand for extra state and local police. Let's also not forget that the projected path of the hurricane will leave a pretty severe worn path of bad weather in Shreveport...schools have already been cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday there. Ironically, this is still going to be one of the state's cities that doubles in population in the downtown areas due to the evacuees. Indeed, it would make little sense to move it to a stadium where more problems would be created than solved. Again, why didn't this happen in '05 for Arizona State? At the time, I was also asking why it wouldn't work. Now, I know.
The game will either be played in TS, moved, or played in Troy.

next weekend, what are some of the back up plans being considered?
Discussed by LSU athletic dept prior to game on Saturday.
If Gustav followed the projected track (it obviously did), the game would be canceled for favor of the common bye week later in the season.
Primary reason outside of sensitively concerns was the practical one of 1) emergency capacities of the university involves some althetic department support, and 2) inability to practice for much of the week.

LA...proceeds from ticket sales could benefit hurricane relief like Az State did three years ago...but I wouldn't worry about season ticket holders being left out...most would most likely not be able to travel there anyway...

But it seems like a moot point, since it apparently has been discussed that it will be postponed to the common bye week if necessary.

Combine North Texas and Troy's best players(no such thing), beat them by 40, get credit for two wins.

Both teams also have a bye date on Saturday, Nov. 15. I think this is the bye week that would probably be considered. I don't see Troy moving a nationally televised game if at all possible.

Correct and this could further another common point that if we're going to play the $ rule and that season ticket holders dictate much of what we have grown into as an elite program of the new age of college football, then it would make zero sense to basically kill off a home game rather than reschedule, as it would not be welcomed by many ticket holders...especially given that it's an "even year schedule". I think we should just take on overall chunk of our net profits at the end of the season and donate...or try and estimate if we need to go ahead and donate that now instead of later.
President Bush hates black people.

Don't ignore the fact that lots of people evacuated to Shreveport in 2005 so a lot was going on in the city helping with recovery. Plus think about the law enforcement need for a football game. The police need to be used for things more important than a football game.

move it to birmingham on samford's campus and we any my 51 buddies can start tailgating on friday, one problem, not a drop of alcohol is allowed anywhere near campus.

There may be something to be said of just calling that game a lost cause.
Just throwing that out there, don't kill me for the pessimisim

Personally, I would rather not play the game, than play it the week before Florida...thoughts?
The week after Bama isn't as bad, but I would rather the team heal from that emotional game and get an extra week before Ole Miss...
Regardless, I would be strongly against playing the game on October 4th.

I would be surprised if they aren't tied into the LSU grid.

The only downside for us is we lose an open date before the Fla game. That's better than losing revenue by moving it to some other site.
Troy is an open date. I say move it to Reliant Stadium. Tailgate in downtown Houston

quote:That is not the date it would be moved to anyway. Troy is likely not going to move a nationally televised game. Unlike LSU, they do not get many national TV showcases. I would imagine that the date that the game would be replayed, if necessary, would likely be Nov. 15. Both teams have that date off.

I would hope that LSU makes the decision ASAP so the fans can make plans. The university is closed through at least Wednesday, so I suppose that Thursday would be the earliest that we will know something.

Play it in Houston at Reliant.

Honestly, I think it would be best to move it to the superdome.
If it cant be played in baton rouge, why would it be able to be played in nola?

quote:ok, sorry...I didn't research enough and thought that Troy had an open date that weekend, but they actually play the following Tuesday, Oct 7...so, yeah, that won't work...looks like Nov 15, or moving it to Sun or Monday.
