I was ok with being ranked 3-4 but would we jump bama if we win the next 2 games? Auburn is going to beat ARK and they might jump back into top 10 here giving us 3 top 10 wins. I much rather not be #1 going into bama...2 or 3 would be just right

Possibly maybe ohio state jumping if they beat wisconsin?

and no i'm not automatically looking past auburn..i think that game is gonna be alot tougher than we think.

If LSU wants to be a successful program then dealing with the pressures of being a successful program is something the coaches and players will need to learn to deal with. Can't be running away from expectations and high rankings.

We aren't jumping Bama unless they lose (and even then, it may be questionable ), so I'd be happy going in at #1.

Hey, they do have their BIGGEST MOST STORIED RIVAL coming up this week, so there may be a chance.

We'd move up to #1 by beating Bama. And we'll deserve that ranking. All that matters is staying in the top 4, and we likely need to beat Bama to do that too.

It doesn't... I am not following your argument.

Did it "matter" that we were ranked higher than Florida?

What exactly are you saying that the disadvantage is of going on the road as the higher ranked team?

It can't always be about hyping yourself into feeling you're being slighted. No team that stays on top can think like that. Eventually, you have to have the mindset that you are the dragon and people have to come for you.

The underdog card is one you play at one point in team building, but ideally you move on from it.

How do you know it didn't matter? I didn't say it determined win or loss... You don't think FL felt disrespected all week? You dont think there is more pressure on the #1 team? Have you not heard of an underdog ?

FL played their best Offensive game of the year...went from worst 3rd down team to a very high percentage.....Did that have anything to do with it probably not but you can't say "doesnt matter"

The attention alone can affect it.

Point is i rather be #4 or #5 than #1... Rather people keep giving us no chance.

Eh, it's possible. The voters behave differently in the playoff era than they did with the BCS.

Bama's next two games are against Tennessee and Arky. LSU plays Auburn (potentially top 10).

If LSU were to beat Auburn handily, I could see the voters swapping Bama and LSU comfortable with the knowledge that they'll be settling it on the field on 11/9 anyways.

Honestly, if I were a voter, I'd feel like a disingenuous shmuck continuing to rank a team #1 over another team that already had 3 top-10 wins.

We haven’t beat Bama in 8 years. I’m not worried about motivation or overconfidence as factors in them prepping for this game — I wouldn’t be worried about it if Bama were coming in with 4 losses... we’re talking about EIGHT YEARS here.

I think I’d enjoy seeing them beat Bama w/ Saban at home as much as, if not more than, a natty at this point.

Throw rank out the window.

Agreed. Also wish we didn't have a bye week before bama again..Not that we would have won the last 8 years but bama has an advantage with the bye.

But that probably doesnt matter either.....

I got news for you. Even if LSU is #1 going into that game most are STILL going to give LSU no chance. Not because they are or are not ranked #1. But because LSU hasn't beaten Alabama in eight years

Plus, do you think Alabama would be any less motivated if LSU were ranked #2 (or 3, or 4, or 5)? And if LSU is somehow less motivated by being ranked #1 then shame on them.

In sum, as long as both teams are undefeated going into that game the rankings are completely meaningless

at least this year we will be giving them something to prepare for...in the past I think the defensive staff just played golf all week because they knew what we were running
