What made them not get along and work together?

Nothing. Dave took a power5 job as most knew he would.

Diamond Dave got a head coaching job at a power 5 program, so I don’t think they had issues. I just think O’s insecure and overcompensated in his public comments about pelini.

Aranda wanted a head coaching job. Do not understand Eddie's comments about the defense last year given the excellent job Dave did with the defense. I am convinced that Eddie opens his mouth without considering what may spring forth from that orifice.

Ed was jealous of general perception Dave was brains behind LSUs defensive success. Aranda was always on HC trajectory and left when P5 opened.

Ed’s false bravado and insecurity led to 2020 summer of shade at Aranda culminating with the ridiculous prediction 2020 defense way ahead of 2019.

Same issue for O, thin skin, insecure, and incapable of accurate football evaluation.

O pushed the best coach he had out the door because he wanted to run a 4-3. He's a buffoon.

Ed is completely unprofessional and insecure. Aranda is a threat to his ego.

But the narrative before Aranda took the Baylor HC job was that he didn’t want to be a HC.

That quote about the 2020 defense will go down in LSU lore as among the dumbest statements ever provided by a head coach

I don't recall that. I recall it was more that Aranda was an introvert and wouldn't do well as a P5 HC because that requires a certain extent of extrovert qualities.

Something must have changed in 2019. Aranda interviewed at places that are much worse than Baylor and it looks he was eager to leave. Maybe he had enough of an arrogant yet stupid boss.

Edit to correct year.

The funny thing is Aranda got choked up at his opening presser at Baylor talking about O and how much he meant to him, they probably had philosophical differences on defenses but leaving for a power 5 head coaching job isn’t getting “run off”. Now did O do a ham handed job of trying to boost up the 4-3 install and the Pelini hire buy throwing shade at Dave? Yep. Is it obvious that Dave was the brains of the operation? Yep.

I will say this though: I know Aranda really wanted to be a head coach but if he was willing to be O’s Venables this thing wouldn’t have imploded the way it has and O probably would’ve continued to have success. Aranda was the person who held it all together and O doesn’t have the discipline or focus to maintain success. Apparently we have Daronte because of Aranda’s recommendation, maybe that was his way of getting back at O for shading him haha

O talking shite about Aranda is what made me seriously doubt him for the first time - I even defended him after the Troy loss. Still bizarre why would you hang the guy to dry when he just won a natty with you.

And after 2020... dude. How can you be so incredibly wrong about your defense? Especially as a former defensive coach???

I think LSU improves and puts up a good fight this year; I don't know if that will be enough to save his job.
