This isn’t true. Don’t cut the guy short he’s been huge in several of the early SEC series.

Nope, just constantly hacking away at pitches outside the strike zone.

This, unfortunately, is the answer. Johnson gets too hung up on lefty-righty matchups on both sides of the equation at times.

Hung up? We have the best offense in the country. Sheesh

He doesn’t have the RH hitters to do this. He matches up way less than most coaches

Could be.. JJ doesn’t disclose injuries. Example is Neal.

As soon as teams figured out he could not hit a curveball that’s all he got. Unless he figures it out the best he can hope for is to pinch hit. I do believe at some point down the road he will learn how to and it will be fun watching him hit nukes again

My point is that both Jones and Beloso were in slumps simultaneously (and Beloso’s was actually worse), but Beloso was the one who continued getting ABs because Johnson “had” to have another lefty in the lineup. It’s one thing to play the matchups when you have the pieces to do it effectively. It’s another to try to force it.

I agree that in game situationally he hasn’t switched out a RH hitter for a LH hitter with a great deal of frequency this season (though he most certainly has tried to force that to work situationally with the bullpen.) On offense it takes the form of sitting Jones to make room for Travinski so that he keeps a certain number of LH bats in the starting lineup.

I think Jones only is sitting because he is slumping

Travinski doesn’t even play the same position

I’m talking about the games Travinski was at DH or 1B. Yes, Jones is sitting because he is slumping. The issue I have is that Beloso was slumping even worse headed into the Georgia series AND Georgia started lefties, yet Beloso continued in the starting lineup.

Travinski has 1 start at 1B & 1 start at DH.

Been that way all year. He doesn’t play to the splits much at all. You knew it was going to be the case when he never sat Brady neal vs LH when he was healthy.

True, but both came in the 4 games last week that Jones sat.

Yes, understood. I only added it to emphasize the fact that it took a very deliberate decision making process on Johnson’s part to play Beloso and sit Jones. It was so important to him to have another lefty in the starting lineup even with the opponent starting a lefty. I’m not one to reflexively criticize Johnson’s moves, but it seems apparent to me that he doggedly clings to having a certain number of LH hitters in the lineup regardless of the circumstances or personnel available.

He probably would still be thrown out at first with his speed.

Fyi: I like Cade’s story this year and glad he came back.

He’s got good bat speed but it’s a really long swing. He’s susceptible to missing the fastball if he sits breaking stuff all the time. Seems like he’s got work to do there. Should still contribute plenty in the post season.

Its not forced, opposing teams figured out the pitches he cannot hit

Again, I’m not disputing that Jones is in a slump. My issue is that Beloso was 3 for his last 28 in SEC play at the time Johnson took Jones out of the lineup. Teams have also figured him out with the way they shift and pitch him.
