Only after he gave the OC job to his WR coach who had never been an OC before and is now a middle school coach in 1999 ...

Dinardo wasn't given that choice, Dean was forced to fire him by TAF bigwigs that had to pay for the new east upper deck in 2000 ..

Saban and Emmert

It's just Emmert and that's the end of it. Without him making the decision to spend money we never would have had Saban.

Mark Emmert had the vision to hire the best coach that wanted to rebuild LSU and money was no object. When we paid Nick $1.6M and made him the 3rd highest coach (if my memory serves me right), most thought we were crazy because Nick hadn't proven himself yet. One of the best quotes from Skip at the time was when he asked someone about Nick during the search they said something to the effect that he was a tremendous coach but a son of a bitch. Obviously we were more interested in a home run coach rather than a nice guy.

Winner. Met him several times at the former Chancellors home and one of those people that just has an extra top gear. Also an outsider that could see the potential and also smart enough to immediately neuter the idiots on the BOS and the money people. In Louisiana money does not equal brains and he saw that.

that's exactly what i mean. hallman disgusted fans so much there was a real danger the program would fall off the map and not recover, much like miami has done. hallman was extremely successful at southern miss but almost immediately after coming to baton rouge it was obvious to me he was a terrible head football coach. what a stupid decision to hire him.

Money

State budget was and is based on oil. In the 80s, nearly 40% of state revenues came from oil. Oil bubble of the 80s sent Louisiana finances in a tailspin. Thousands of citizens left the state. Contributions to the school dropped.

Took 10+ years for state finances to improve.

Dinardo brought back the magic (Tepper snuffed it). Emmert brought in Saban. Saban built a culture and a team. 2003 happened. Saban left 2005. Enter CLM and the Win Ugly years. But even "Win Ugly" includes "Win" (79% of the time) so here we are.

when I was at LSU in the 90s I think my dad saw LSU win one home game. My 17 yr old son has seen 2 NC and when weve gone to TS they win. He is livin the good life.

Mark Emmert.

While he's done some things as NCAA czar that piss me off, we have him to thank - almost exclusively - for the success we've had .

This without a doubt

Mark Emmert understood that LSU football was the front porch of the university...a successful football team made a lot of other things possible for the university...

I really wish we'd make a major run at Dinardo for OL coach. His recruiting and OL coaching were some of the best of all time at LSU. He's currently an analyst for the Big Ten Network. Was also in Les' wedding alongside Cam Cameron.

I will never forget being mad that LSU beat a top 10 Bama team on the road only because I knew it would give Hallman another year.
