is Centenary typically any good?

Yeah, but probably not as good as they used to be years back. If I'm not mistaken, they've slipped a little bit lately, as have a lot of Louisiana teams. Dallas Baptist and UT-Arlington might be the new up-and-comers in the region...

EDIT: I think the Gents' RPI was around the #100 mark for most of last season.

Relax, dude. I didn't get to see any of the games, and I was just curious about the scores. No one is criticizing coach M.

i was just being rantardalitious... i'll echo everyone else, it's just baseball. sometimes the ball finds the hole, sometimes it doesn't.

I wasn't trying to be a prick, just citing another example of how unpredictable the game of baseball can be. Last year LSU lost to Nicholls and ULL, even though LSU was clearly superior to both teams.

you get a group of horrible pitchers on the mound and the bats are hot, things can get ugly in a hurry. once they saw the game was out of reach, they probably saved their better pitchers for the next day.

uh, Nicholls was clearly the best team last year. by their grace only was lsu able to go on to win the national championship.

The great difference from game to game is another reason why we like to play series of games as opposed to single games to determine the "better" team.

A single game can really have a wide margin of error when it comes to comparing teams. One of the things I've learned about baseball is that everything averages out.

The game begins and ends on the mound. Pitching is the great equalizer. Its why Mcneese or ULM could beat LSU in one game but highly unlikely to take a series cause they just dont have the depth

Why did we completely dismantled Centenary one game and play them pretty close in the others? I can guess at some reasons, but I'm intersted what really happened.

A good pitcher can stime a team.
An umpire calling a tight strike zone can make an offensive game
An umpire calling a liberal strike zone can make a low scoring game
You can make good contact but hit it right at the other teams players
you can get horible contact but the ball can just fall in for a hit
you can have alot of hits, but not score alot of runs
you can get a couple o hits but turn them into runs.

See the pattern here? Baseball, although a team sport, can be dominated by a great player (pitcher) How an up calls a game can effect the tone. Getting breaks can equate to runs or a great stop. It's baseball. In the majors winning 100 out of 162 games is consitered an outstanding season. It's just the way baseball is.....

In game 2 they made 2 or 3 errors in the first inning and fell behind 7. They basically conceded defeat at that point and saved their best relievers for Sunday

This.

And even schools like Centenary have at least a few solid pitchers and in their particular case had four pitchers who all started a signifigant number of games last year.
