this years bunch will score way less than last year IMO
I disagree. Without Raph hitting into double plays every time he has a runner on, we should score more. Our 4 spot was incredibly weak last year. I expect Ibarra to have a beast season. Laird, Foster, and Mac Mullen will set the stage and Bregs is a perfect doubles hitter for the Blatt.

I don't know if you are joking or not. But this is really the kind of game that anyone wanting to win Omaha will have to go to. "Small ball" game is what the design of the new stadium is geared to.

Get there.
They got there last year but LSU's game is not geared to success there because of the stadium change. The powers that be in Omaha got rid of the "ball park" concept and went with a copy of a MLB stadium. You will not see lots of HR there.
If you remember it was UCLA that won the CWS. watching UCLA's brand of baseball is about as interesting to fans of college baseball as watching paint dry. It is all "small ball", lots of bunts. If you look at the make up of the hitters, they all had good bunting, sacrifice averages. That is the game that won it last year.
The problem is the SEC doesn't historically play small ball.

Ball change after this year will be a major improvement. With the new Omaha Park and the same bat n ball as last year I don't expect much. Small ball will win it again this year. It's sorta crazy to go all small ball to prep for Omaha this year and switch back next year.
You can't just go small ball unless you have a great pitching staff.....

Uh no. Look up the new stadium. The team that won last year played "small ball". What UCLA hitters excelled at throughout their batting order was sacrifices/bunts.
The TD Ameritrade Park Omaha's dimensions are: 335 ft, right and left field, LCF and RCF are 375, and Center at 408.
Alex Box is at 330 Right and Left ,365 Right Center and Left Center, and 405 Center.
Below is a listing of dimensions of all SEC stadiums. LSU's looks to be the closest to Omaha.

Unlike every other CWS at the old ballpark, "long ball" did NOT dominate at the TD Stadium. There were few HR's, and the HR's I recall were at LF although I watched most of the games, I didn't see all of them.
I'm not saying that LSU should go to, borrowing a softball term become slaphitters (kind of a hit-bunt, sort of with a running start), but I think in order to be successful at the new stadium they will have to add "small ball" dimensions to their game.

Ball change wont be considered until rules committee meets in July 2014. I don't think it is a lock they will switch to a livelier ball. They should have done that when they made the bat change.
According to an article I read from May 2013,all the SEC coaches want a change to a livelier ball, but the NCAA didn't use any input from coaches when they made the bat change so I don't know if a ball change will actually happen.
The NCAA college rule now is that the COR must be no greater than .555 but minor league and MLB's rule is no greater than .578. The higher the number the livelier the ball.
I don't think we can assume the NCAA will up the COR to .578. Maybe .565 would be the range more likely but who knows, could be only .560.
As much as people on the Rant hate "the bunt", and "small ball", that is what the rules for the equipment and the new CWS stadium is geared to, and I don't know if it should be assumed that the NCAA will make the change everyone here wants.
So it is not crazy at all to consider "small ball".

frick small ball. You dont have to bunt in Rosenblatt, but you do have to hit balls to the gap. Doubles are what's going to win you games in that stadium.
It isn't Rosenblatt anymore, it's TD Ameritrade stadium, and and UCLA won by playing small ball.
LF: 332 CF: 408 RF: 332 Rosenblatt
LF:335 LCF 375 C 408 RC 375 RF 335 TD Ameritrade
Different stadiums.
Add bat change, "... lowering the bat’s BBCOR to 0.50 would reduce the batted ball speed by about 5 percent, which would be 5 mph for a typical hard hit ball, which would reduce the distance of a long fly ball by 25 to 30 feet. This was expected to reduce home runs by up to 60 percent, and a quick and dirty check of home runs per game at the end of the 2011 seasons showed an approximately 50 percent reduction."

I see there is a move to use the .578, but it is the NCAA, so I"m not going to assume it will happen until it happens.

NCAA voted on the new ball months ago.
It goes into effect in 2015.
And I still say frick small ball.
When we roll into Ohmaha this season, the heart of our order cant be in a slump.

Thanks. I was talking about TD Ameritrade. Do t know why I said Rosenblatt. You need to get balls into the big gaps in the power alleys there and string three hits together. You do t necessarily need to bunt ifyou can get 2 si gles and a double.

The problem with the dead bats and bigger park is that outfielders are not playing as deep, creating smaller gaps, because of the decreased potential for longer hit ball.

I'd like to see the hit and run executed better and smarter base running.
