Jacoby was a silent to UGA going into the summer. He visited Bama in June and started having second thoughts as they turned up the heat. At a Nashville satellite camp, four coaches from Bama including Lane Kiffin showed up, UGA's DC, and Austin Thomas. Some of the FCS staffers joked that LSU had sent an intern because Austin looks so young and not much like a coach.
The UGA and Bama coaches had to get back to campus for other camps, but they didn't want to be the first to leave. They got to together and struck a truce that they would all leave together, but they didn't think enough of Austin to invite him to the conversation. Everyone except Austin left.
Jacoby had been told going in "you're going to be coached by some great coaches at this camp but at the end of the camp, look and see who is still here." After that, it was all LSU.

He's literally the best at what he does right now. He's our not so secret weapon going forward. If he can hold onto him for 10 or 15 years, through additional HC changes, it will be a real coup, particularly as we developed him.
Hopefully he thinks of LSU and Baton Rouge as home now.

He interned under Monte Kiffin (and Ed Orgeron and Frank Wilson) on Lane Kiffin's staff at Tennessee. He followed them to USC. He left to become Director of Player Personnel at Bowling Green. When Frank found out that he moved on from USC, he was hired by LSU later that week.
