What do you think is wrong with defense?

My opinion is in light of all of the turmoil, continuity was paramount. LSU hired a guy that scrapped the entire scheme and attempted to put in a new scheme with no real August camp, uncertainty on the start date and a massive influx of new players. Doesn’t see, like BP is doing a good job of communicating, so not sure how much teaching they are able to do during the week.
So we are seeing a unit that is unsure of itself in base defenses, and unable to do anything in disguise. So the unit is a sitting duck if the front can’t get pressure with four.
What is really concerning is conditioning and tackling are also suffering from the dysfunctional start of the season. Even when we are in position, we are a step slow or miss the tackle.
Unless we just say frick it and blitz like crazy I don’t see how this gets fixed. Tape shows we are susceptible to certain things like delayed receivers, receivers running across defenders and needing to be passed off and certainly safety responsibilities.
This could get even worse as SEC OCs see what is working and make game plans specifically for our deficiencies like Mizzou did today. Mullen is a master at this, so is Gus bus and Kiffin.
What do we actually do well? Does anybody know?

I'm tempted to say everything, but first and foremost the DL is abysmal outside of Ali Gaye. They are getting gashed in the running game. The rest is a domino effect.

Honestly, Ricks and Stingley on the edge are the only real strengths at the moment, and Ricks is a freshman and is going to make some mistakes. He made a big one today and had one vs State. I see some flashes from the young guys on the D Line, but they are inconsistent.
The rest has been bad. Consistently bad. Especially the LBs and Safeties.

Honestly looks like one of two things:
Either Bo's schemes are too comoplex for them to catch on or LSU players are not the right recruits to fit his scheme.
Either way.. they look frickING LOST and SLOW

Lots are wrong
1. We don’t know what we’re doing. The motions and misdirections killed us. It’s like we weren’t prepared for it at all. We have blown coverages all over the place.
2. Our DL isn’t anywhere near where we need it to be. Gaye is good. BJ, Roy and Guillory are promising but young. You need to just dominate the line of scrimmage with your front 4 and we don’t.
3. We aren’t even playing hard. Idk who needs to get that right but you can blame everyone. Clark, Stevens, Pelini and O. We shouldn’t be giving up on plays.

they dont like to cover receivers or tackle. both aspects are equally poor

Coaching. Period.
They are lost, out of position, look to have poor tackling technique, etc.

can't tackle
can't cover
can't rush the passer
can't plug a hole
can't stop teams not named vandy from scoring
can't get on the same page
that's about it

THe platers do not want to play hard for Pelini
Motivation and leadership totally absent.....reminds me of the Troy Game mindset

2to3 kids playing defense that should not be see playing time. 2 that saw lots of playing time last year

Our Linebacker play is the root of the problem. Clark is slow, Baskerville is completely lost/unproductive, and Cox is overrated/terrible against the run.

Two players that shouldn’t be on field. We don’t have that run stopper in the middle.

It is stunning how a unit with so much speed gives up so many big plays

I say blitz every down. When they rush 4 they still get donkey fricked so may as well blitz every down.

There are only 3 starters on the field from last years defense: Stingley, Stevens and Logan.
