imo loston was out of position more than eugene..i thought they were better with eugene in the game.i think loston did improve and he will be better this year.lack of pass rush and the defense being on the field so long was the biggest problem with the secondary....

Big part was the pass rush or lack there of and the bad match ups that resulted from it. Eric Reid is a beast but you don't want him covering slot receivers man to man down field. Opposing offenses had the ability to incorporate double move routes and deep combo routes when they didn't feel the threat of our pass rush.

Eugene couldn't tackle anyone last year and the Jalens don't have the speed of our DB's of the last several years. Hopefully we will receive some help from incoming freshmen.

Last year down the stretch (bama on) LSU played eight different DBs in game rotation. Four of those were freshmen (Mills, Collins, Eugene and Thompson) and a fifth was a true soph (Martin). Expect much improvement from those five players.

Loston will be our lone SR starter in the secondary. In his first season injury free he did a damn good job. He will be the leader back there in '13.

Those six players are a solid corps to build upon. D Thomas also had a very encouraging spring camp.

Eugene was the dime back, Collins was nickle.

I believe the Davis you named a couple of time is Tredavious White.

DL is still the biggest question mark heading into '13. Starting four will be SEC quality talent. Need to find another 4-5 players that can give quality SEC minutes every game.

i wonder what they are gonna do at S. Thompson and Loston are our best safeties, but both play SS. Martin is an exceptional safety, but maybe they try Thompson at free and Loston at strong.

I will get blasted for this probably, but a lot of the problem was Eric Reid taking bad angles and getting beat in coverage that along with Simon not playing his best and a true freshman opposite of him. I think our secondary will be better or just as good at least. A ton of young talent coming in as well.

The last 4 games passing yards by opponents:
MSU - 307 yds
Ole Miss - 316 yds

Clemson - 346 yds
Was Corey Raymond coaching in those games or out recruiting?

Calling Ron Cooper. Coach Cooper, please answer the signal; look up in the sky. The Tiger Eye signal is blazing away. You're needed and wanted.

Nothing! The Tigers had an excellent secondary last year. Motivation was missing after they were eliminated from the title hunt.

We have two of the best corners in college ball in the two Jalens; Loston is a 10 physically, and appeared to have learned the position by the middle of last year; and Ronald Martin looked so good in coverage that he might be better than Reid.

After having Mo, PP7 and TM at the same time, we'll never again be able to use the superlative for LSU secondaries, but this one could be the penultimate.

I agree with all this. This program was geared toward beating Bama and getting another title shot. When we lost in the final seconds all the air came out. The fact that we won those last 3 regular season games shows the talent level. We'll be back. Young and hungry. Just what we need to be.

If the starters are Loston and Thompson I would think Loston is the FS making all the secondary calls.

I can remember reading one time where chief actually had a left and right safety not necessairly a SS and FS.

Mills was very good, so was Collins as true freshmen.

Ronald Martin was pretty good as a safety.

They've got a season under their belt, they can only get better.

An improved offense that can move the chains will go a long way in helping the D.
