just make the tournament!

Heard the same thing about Smoke. He went 2 and q in the CWS and I was ready for him to go. Once we start winning, just making the tournament won't be enough. I agree for now that should be the goal, but then I would expect us to make the sweet 16, etc. Hell, look at all the people bitching about Les. We had one f up, but we went 13-0 and made the NC game. If someone told me that, I would have taken it, cause I thought next year was our year with losing Shep, Nevis and PP7 last year.

And why IN THE frick would a Calipari type coach come TO THE WORST TEAM IN THE SEC?

..to make it better.. duh !

LSU is,even in Basketball a prominent school.
During the era of Dale Brown, we were prominently featured during the year. No, we were never the KYs or Dukes of the world, but the SEC usually had around 4 teams in the NCAA tournament.
So if we could be the no. 2 team in our div. , we would likely have a chance at the Big Dance.
Also, the salary is competetive.

When Brown came to LSU we were not much better than than last...and eventually went 13 years in a row to the dance. 8 of 10 is not totally out of the picture and not as unrealistic as some want to make it sound (so if it is 7 or 8 of 10)..it is pretty much the same, Our standing in the SEC will dictate a lot.

You don't seriously think Coach Cal would come to LSU do you? Please tell me you aren't that delusional

I would not want Coach Cal to come here. The dude leaves a shite-storm in his wake wherever he goes.

I like the fact that Trent is clean. It is a longer build, but it'll be more satisfying when he gets there.

No. Do you know how many teams the tourney took? 32. We were 5th in the SEC in his 5th year 3rd in his 6th year (still missed the tourney because of the much more selective tourney) and went to the sweet 16 in his 7th then elite 8 in his 8th then final 4 in his 9th. BTW I have stated that if TJ gets Gathers and an NIT berth I think that is fine. Im mainly arguing this guy who thinks we are the worst team in the SEC and should accept mediocrity which is completely untrue. IMO by this year TJ should have a tourney squad at this point. However depending on how this year ends up we are showing signs of getting better. I dont think we should fire TJ. However if we dont make the NCAA next year (we should have the squad to expect that) then he should definitely be on he hotseat.

I really do like the guy as an individual

He said hello to me one time while walking by. Not being a basketball fan, I didnt recognize him. But he looked like a real nice fellow.

Since I;m not a basketball fan, I say keep Trent forever. He's nice. Like Richt. Just without the past successes.

I think you are saying the same as most of us.
We need to see SOLID improvement. He is playing with his players....
but IMO, if we don't get in the NCAA next year, he should be gone.

No, but the program was totally depleted when Dale came.
Pistol Pete left and that had been the show with very little effort to attract talent.

okay, looking at his records, don't think they would've made it in even if they took 65

okay, so what are you complaining about? TJ hasn't even been here 5 years and already has a tourney birth (in my mind its a sweet 16 because of our bullshite seed)

Trent Johnson only gets a small amount of credit for that tournament team. That was Brady's team whether we want to believe it or not. Trent's talent has done jack shite.

Brady's players were also more disciplined on the court, which is frightening.

Im complaining about 2 things. #1 I think we should be better by this point in TJs tenure. Other schools have done it and done it faster. NIT this year is the minimum level to retain some faith in TJ/the program.

#2 complaint is the fans should expect more. People have somehow written off bball as not mattering because we are good at football and baseball. They say "we arent a bball school" "the fans will never pack out the PMAC" which is a load of bull. We have been there and done that. We shouldnt accept 1 tourney in 4 years. We shouldnt accept losing the top bball players in the state (good job on Morgan...need to get Gathers).

So you think that we should not be on the national scene at all? I simply said relevant nationally. 7-8 NCAAs out of 10....Im not asking for national championships...Just be in the tourney on a regular basis...theres plenty of programs who do this who arent top 10 programs as you claim.

No, that's DOMINANT nationally.

I gave you four BASKETBALL PROGRAMS that haven't achieved this in the last 10 years.

What indication do you have that LSU is (or ever has been) a MAJOR basketball program?

"Buuuuuuttt....... Dale Brown...... bbbbbuuuuuttttt..... Final Fours and stuff."

Dale Brown had a GREAT Final Four team, #1 seed and all.

In 1979. Pushing 35 years ago. DePaul was a #1 seed then, too. How are they looking?

His other Final Four team was a #11 seed that was .500 in SEC play. DOMINANT!

But ACTUALLY LOOK at his coaching record..... there's a lot of up and down, .500ish seasons in there as well.

And then there's John Brady's Final Four team.

Four NBA players (Davis, Thomas, Temple and Johnson), four D-league/Europe level talents (Tasmin, Rolle, Lazare, D. Mitchell). It's REALLY hard NOT to do well with that much talent. And 5 LAST place finishes (and a 4th place for good measure) in 11 years. Yay?

As I've shown (more than once) LSU is THE WORST team over the last TWENTY years.

I know those crazy numbers are all lies, so perhaps if I say that WE HAVE WON LESS (AND LOST MORE) SEC GAMES THAN ANY OTHER TEAM SINCE 1993, maybe that will make more sense.

People need to kill the delusions of grandeur for LSU basketball. It's not there. You could argue it NEVER WAS there.

REALISTIC objectives for LSU are to be the best team in the West, and COMPETE for the postseason. In short, be what Mississippi State has been for the past twenty years.

Primary objective for LSU Basketball needs to be:
1a. BE COMPETITIVE IN THE WEST

What's funny, is if you look at it.... THIS team, TODAY'S team is about *yay* close to that objective.

Ole Miss (H) - Blowout win
Alabama (A) - Bad loss, at Alabama two days after getting skull-fricked by Alabama in the national title game, without O'Bryant
Arkansas (A) - Team was competitive until the very end, without O'Bryant, in a place where Arkansas hasn't lost this season
Auburn (H) - Overtime win
Mississippi State (A) - Within 1 point in the last 30 seconds on the road to a Top 15 team..... sounds pretty competitive.
Arkansas (H) - Win

Well shite, paw. This looks like a team that IS COMPETITIVE in the West. NOW.

Can the season still unravel? Sure. Could we (conceivably) finish 2nd in the West THIS YEAR, and push for winning the West next year. That's possible, too.

Keep dreaming about being a Top 5 team like LSU "always was." Maybe if you hope and wish long enough, the record books will change. I'll be cheering for the team, THIS team to succeed.
