Valentine should be second string until he earns a start

Thinking of the front seven as only seven guys isn't complete. I think you'll have every-down players: Godchaux, Key, Beckwith who only come off every so often to stay fresh.
Then, you have a heavy package where those three are complimented by Gilmore, Lacouture, Bower, White.
Then, you have a passing down/spread package where the every-down guys will be complimented by Neal, Herron, Thompson, Riley.
These packages will be mixed and matched depending on the game situation and opponent personnel strengths.

Gotta agree with this the most. I definately don't see Neal being a majority time (>50%) DE when you have Herron and Gilmore there and they're both over 300. Plus if Valentine plays you can put LaCouture there and if you wanna get Lawrence playing time he could play there or NT and the NT slides to that DE.

Bower Beckwith White Key
Neal Godchaux Lacouture
Neal Godchaux Lacouture

Not sold on Riley, sorry just my opinion. I think kid represents LSU very well but is extremely unproven.
Who else starts there though? Everyone else is unproven too.

Any chance you move Divinity there mid-season if Duke can't hang?

If valentine comes in he's starting at nt, that's the whole reason he's coming in the first place. That means godchaux, Neal or lacouture has to come off bench....take a wild guess who odd man out is.

This. There is no reason to think he plays significant time much less starts.

White will share time at MLB with Riley.

currently, that is the situation. things will evolve based on health, Valentine's progress and how people do in the first two games before SEC play.

DT - Godchaux
Godchaux moved to NT. Lacouture to DE

I think the main argument is that Lacouture is a dt, not a nt. Valentine fits the nt build perfect. And we do know a little about him from his freshman year. According to practice reports even our first string oline couldn't stop him.
Also don't count out lawrence. By the end of the year I could see him cracking his way in.

DE - Lacouture
NT - Lawrence
DE - Godchaux
OLB - Key
OLB - Neal
Mike - Beckwith
Will - Riley
ETA: I could see Lacouture playing the nose but I tend to like him as a 5 tech and would love to see Frank Herron realize his potential as a DE in this scheme. I also like Neal sliding to DE, Lacouture to NT and Thompson coming in for 3rd down pass rush situations
NT - Lawrence
DE - Godchaux
OLB - Key
OLB - Neal
Mike - Beckwith
Will - Riley

Yeah, don't let the facts stand in the way. Those guys were on the bench last year while Neal played. He'll play more than them this year too.

Unproven? Dude, did you see the recruiting rankings on our freshman?
It'll never get old. The rant will rant.

Guys, Duke Riley being able to hang is not a worry. He's a stud. He proved it the last two years.
