Considering the circumstances, they played a damn fine game.

-New DC, implementing 3-4 at a 4-3 school and with 4-3 personnel, playing against old team/players who know his system, playbook, and terminology.

The biggest problem I saw was lack of tackling. A lot of arm tackles and hoping and praying.

Yes.

Completely agree.

Tolliver also got knocked on his arse by Wisconsin's TE on TE screen.

Just glad they didn't play against a better, more experienced offensive team. If they did yesterday would have been an embarrassment. They could have gotten blown out like USC. Wisconsin QB was really garbage and they made him look better than he was. Dude should have constantly been under pressure and sacked. Instead he managed to run out of sure sacks and I'm scratching my head saying how??

I'll say this: Aranda's Defense, in game 1 of Aranda's scheme, vastly outshone Cameron's offense in year 4 of his scheme.

Defense will be fine. Yet again, we're on target for a 5th percentile offense.

The defense will get better. The offense, not so much.

Better than Kevin Steele. Needed his offense to help his guys acclimate to the game and the new system, but the offense decided to shite the bed and have the ball for 22 fricking minutes.

If it wasn't for the defense we wouldn't have scored a single point. The defense put 7 points on the board and gave the offense a very short field to work with on the 2nd score. If the offense would've been able to sustain some drives then the defense would've looked even better in my opinion. In regards to Valentine, he stuffs the run. When Gilmore was in, that center was standing him up and pushing him back. When Valentine was in, the center was pushed back a couple of yards at the snap clogging the running lanes.

The defense only allowed 4.64 yards/play. That's a top 10 defense if they average that all year. They also forced 3 turnovers, and scored a TD. Really good for the first game of the season in a new system & against a quality opponent.

And they were on the field nearly 40 minutes due to the offense being so bad.

Winny ran a ton of plays in the 1st Q. Hard to pin that on the offense

Considering the positions our shitastic offense put them in, I thought they did ok.

The crap tackling is slightly understandable considering the first game of the year. Also Wisc played with 10x the energy we did.

Way to early for a verdict, obviously. Looked to me like we ran out of the base formation the vast majority of the game. The one time we had our ILBs creep to the LOS, Arranda was going ballistic on the sideline trying to get them lined up right.

Still got a ways to go before the players grasp the whole system it appears.

Wisconsin moved the ball well and got first downs.

Running and passing.

LSU D was bailed out by new QB once with a gift of a pick 6 and another time with an INT in the endzone on bad decision type throws. This is not yet the dominant D we had hoped, and due in part to the LSU O not keeping TOP, once the D got winded, it led to the poor tackling technique being more of an issue.

Wisconsin had some nice drives against a fresh LSU D, that was not on the LSU O.

If the D can't figure out how to stop a counter-trey and let teams march down the field running it over and over, go ahead and chalk up some BLOWOUT loses, not just one score ones.

I think the OP should factor in the D staying on the field the entire game. ALSO, the Wisky fan (see classy post on TD) said that there is a learning curve on his scheme. The brighter D player will quicken up. They are still having to think through their reactions.

I think higher of our D's play yesterday that anything else LSU put on the field.
