Cholly Mac when I was I very young and you had to listen to games on the radio if you didn't go in person. Then came Jerry Stovall and the Tiger Vision days.

Cholly Mac, great defensive teams, I always said if he would have hired a top notch offensive coordinator he would have won a couple of national championships.

Paul Dietzel. I was 11 months old when I went to my first game.

Even though I had been to games earlier, Bill Arnsparger is the earliest coach I recall being mentioned. I started watching and following LSU football by 1987, so really it was Mike Archer.

Coach McClendon was the coach but I never felt like we had the kind of success we should have had while he was the coach!

I like the story Casanova tells when he was with the Bengals, he said he was talking with Paul Brown and other Bengals coaches about how close they were to a national championship if not for a bad break or two and they all started laughing, he asked what was so funny and the consensus reply was LSU rarely has any big, fast,
Yes, I've heard that story before as well....Mac was a good coach. Almost all coaches were conservative in his era and Mac certainly was as well, but it drew the ire of fans like my Dad. Hell we'd run the option with Bert Jones!

My first game at Tiger Stadium in 1949, Tinsley was coach. He was a great player and well liked, but not so great as a coach.

Mac. He was a great guy.
After I moved to Florida, he was attending games when LSU played. Tailgated with him in Gainesville once about 30 years ago.
