re: What are your goals for the basketball program?

My expectations for the basketball program are simple.
- 20 wins (or more) per season.
- Compete for the SEC Championship.
- Make the NCAA tournament
Everything else is gravy.
Wade is a great recruiter, so eventually he will strike gold with a recruiting class that pushes LSU even further than we could imagine.
I honestly don't think LSU can upgrade from Wade as a coach. Are there better X's and O's coaches out there? Easily. Are there coaches who can recruit at his level that would come to LSU? Questionable.
Wade reminds of Leonard Hamilton at Florida State. The offense is basically the same. Both are tremendous recruiters who are loved by their team. Hamilton has turned FSU into one of the top basketball programs in the ACC. And I honestly believe that their team would have won the championship during the COVID season.
At the end of the day, the more talented team on the court usually wins the game. Just keep recruiting at a high level, and good things will happen. Which has been the philosophy at Florida State.
I use FSU as an example, because the coaching is the same, the coach is the same in that he's known as a program builder that sustains it's success through recruiting. Both coaches are enamored with length and athleticism, and the list of similarities just goes on and on.

The fans on this board are certifiably insane idiots.
I bet you most don't even realize Wade got fricked a couple of years ago by the pettiness of Yahoo and Dickhead V and that cost him quite a few recruits. Some who were basically considered locks until all the hit pieces came out against him.
Not to mention, when recruiting against these other schools he's at a big disadvantage because of our facilities being so outdated. Hopefully, now with Woody here, we'll get some updated basketball facilities and it won't be such an afterthought.
I know quite a few schools who would love to have him coaching for them, whenever their coaches retire. I wouldn't say they fire the coaches because it's schools like Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc. The true blue bloods of college basketball know he's a hell of a coach and if he's still here whenever one of those spots open, he'll get a call from them. Hopefully, it's no time soon and by that time, we'll have upgraded and built new facilities at least on par with other top programs in the country, or at least the SEC.
Wade is a great coach and quite honestly it's a miracle he's done as well as he has thus far. Because as I mentioned, with the shitty facilities and especially with everything that has happened with the big programs getting mad at him for taking recruits from them and in turn, them getting hit pieces wrote against him and all that BS, the odds have been stacked against him and he's still done well. One would have thought that would have been obvious the way he turned this team around the first year he was here. Not only that, but with all the adversity, he's been able to build on that success and have a program that is a perennial top 25 program.
Now that he's starting to settle in and "get in his groove", the best is yet to come. I think the potential for this program under Wade is consistent top 15 - top 25 teams, with a run every 2 or 3 years. That run could easily be the final 4 some years or sweet 16 in others, but under him, it's possible.
I don't think Woody is as dumb as the fans on here. They have no understanding of what's going on in the program and the foundation he's laid. I hope we can do what we need to do to keep him here for the long haul, because if not, a powerhouse with an old coach will gladly ask them to retire if they feel they can get Wade.

1) Watch almost every game on TV.
2) Make a few games at the Box.
3) go to Omaha.

You said your standard is the elite 8 every year when not a single program in the country does that.
I said making the 8 every other year but hey, I’m fine with the 8 every year! Sure. Why not. Who wouldn’t want that? But it’s unrealistic and really, what I want is irrelevant. It’s about what it takes to make the fan base show up consistently and fill the stadium to make the program money on tickets, merch, etc…
That’s the bigger picture and it clearly went over your head.
But just for giggles, let’s say I want to make the 8 every 8 years…. Far more reasonable wouldn’t you say?
Is Wade that guy?

They throw away games in the final minutes by making stupid plays and mistakes. This team is poorly coached on how to finish games.
Realistically, LSU is a middle dweller in the SEC, we are not a BB school and should expect a run about ever 4-5 years with a few good moments in between.

Not yet. He could be in the future though.
Wade isn't elite, but he's still young. I think next season is pivotal.

My goals for LSU basketball?
Watch them when I have time and when they are on tv.
Open threads on tigerdroppings and sometimes comment on the basketball games.
If they make a deep tourney run, make sure I have appropriate snacks and beverages for viewing pleasure
All I can come up with at the moment. But Ill keep everyone posted.

Indeed he’s young and has been for the past 8 years
He’s old enough now to take away the inexperienced part of being young. He’s got the requisite experience now.
Barring any unforeseen events (ncaa violations), I think wade could get a renewed contract if he wins a few games in the tourney. Maybe that’s what the fans want.

That’s why they can’t understand why people are excited. They didn’t witness the endless trash we’ve watched for the last 20 years. All they know is we got to a final 4 so they think that was the norm.
So please go back to the OP’s question and give us your 2 cents-
What are your goals for the basketball program?

It’s not hard to be good at one thing.
Go tell them how easy it is for Texas to win a national title in football or USC or Miami right? I mean it's so easy

Tourney team almost every year
Sweet sixteen some years

We went so long not making the big dance often and wallowing in mediocrity, it’s amazing how spoiled fans have become with a few good seasons finally strung together.
As long as we make the tourney maybe 3/4 or 4/5 years, sprinkle some sweet 16s in regularly and the occasional (1/4 years or so) a deeper run I’d be pretty happy with that.
LSU is not gonna be a team in the elite 8/final four year in and year out, I get that. I’m happy we’re making it every year again and being competitive

It’s telling that you keep using the “8 years” lie. He’s been at LSU for 4 years, this year will be his 5th. More double standards and ignorance, he was making the NCAA tourney at VCU but you left that out as well because you need to allude facts to push your agenda. And asking me to answer questions while you refuse to is just another example of a double standard. I’ve noticed what’s missing from all your arguments, facts and standards. Besides ignorance you don’t have much going for you.

No it’s not.
This is a message board where people throw out opinions.
It’s literally what it’s for.
You only chime in to defend Wade.
It’s a meaningless question: what is your goal for lsu basketball.
I’ll make a deal with you: I’ll throw out a coach name and you answer the op question

“You only chime in to defend Wade.”
Again with a totally false and ironic statement since all you do is mindlessly bash him. Kind of like saying your standards were making it to the elite 8 and being in the top 10 every year then backpedaled on that one after realizing how ignorant it was. I don’t need you to go and google coaches because you don’t know any but I’ll take you up on the deal just for the entertainment. You first, name your coaches.
