This will almost certainly happen. I don't see how you reintroduce 10s of thousands of people into a community, in some cases coming from all over the country, without a spike in positive tests.

I think the odds have gone up, actually.

Lots of things at play here. We don't need to rehash the political angles.

What's seemingly been forgotten, at least by the Big 10, was that the SEC took almost total control of CFB during the BCS era, and the Big 10 was desperately fighting to return to relevance. That's not just schools, that's talking about huge booster networks etc, because there's a TON of money to be made, and who gets what share of the pie.

I'd have thought there would have been an unspoken detente among the big conferences, that nobody makes a move until everyone does, so that nobody gets screwed.
The Big 10 just opened the doors for the SEC to achieve total dominance, and for the ACC and Big 12 to catch/pass them. The Pac 12 just committed suicide unless the season is cancelled.

Long time lurker. First post. Enjoyed watching that skinny kid from Athens develop into the best QB in the history of college football.

What a disaster yesterday was for Ohio State. Of course they won't post the vote tally, but 24 hours later two presidents have spoken publicly, Nebraska's and Ohio State's, so that pretty much tells you it was a 12-2 vote in favor of "postponement," which is just a nicer word for cancellation. On Ryan Day's presser today he mentioned he's still trying to go it rogue, but that is about as likely as the SEC having a full season. I think he's just trying to do what he can to keep up appearances.

Just so depressed right now. Like you guys, I love college football. So angry at the absolute absence of leadership in this country, and that's not a liberal or conservative statement. Just the truth. Kevin Warren's son plays football for Mississippi State. I guess Mr. Warren is like the Buckeye parents and thinks his son is safe? I guess Mississippi State has more resources to keep his son safe, even though football money is a pittance to B1G schools given the billion or more in revenue from medical research that each university brings in every year.

Your students are coming to town next week. It's about the get real. I live in the South, and you can track this pandemic starting with Mardi Gras to Spring Break to July 4 and now freshman orientation. Give it two weeks after next week. That's how the transmission has been playing out all of this horrible year.

I see the Big 12 released their schedule. Their season is doomed. You guys need to keep an eye on the Sun Belt. I never realized how important the MAC was. NBA, NHL, and EPL have shown the only way to have a sports league. SEC will be the last of the conferences to shut down. NFL will follow. It just sucks.

It's all about myocarditis. The Red Sox pitcher came down with that after Covid. Rumor has it that 15 B1G athletes currently have it, including 10 football players (one is an Indiana O lineman or TE whose mother posted about it on Facebook). That's the great fear. It's not fatal, but will shelve you for 3-6 months and I guess can have long term cardiac consequences. I think it's also what Xavier Thomas of Clemson got and why he is sitting out the season.

Plus, let's also remember we are talking about a sport that is largely played by African Americans and clinically obese people, two segments of society that this virus has inordinately impacted.

You know what, I stand corrected on myocarditis. I knew it's not something new and also knew it can be caused by the flu, mono, even the common cold.

This is a good, informative article. LINK

Seems to me it was a convenient excuse that Kevin Warren was looking for, but why hasn't his son opted out?
