With good news about Fidone possibly coming to LSU:

More than just good run support and a good passing game from the same formation.

I assume that two great tight ends Can confuse a defense and keep them honest with two tight ends thst are a thread to block/pass catch every time.

What are some example of plays where the defense can’t keep up with two te?

I don’t care what position he plays, you just gotta get this monster on the field.

Two dynamic TEs on the field would allow us to take a dynamic receiver, like Terrace Marshal, off the field. No thanks.

Generally, having an elite TE will cause a mismatch just because there usually isn't anybody on the defensive side of the ball that can match their size/strength/agility combo. Formation tipping become less of a problem because you can run a variety of plays out of various formations.

A 2 TE formation is generally considered a "run" formation, but when you have guys that can do both, play calls out of that formation can either be run plays where you have 7 blockers in the box send them out into routes and not lose much of a receiving threat.

Go back and watch what the Patriots did when they had Gronk and Hernandez on the field at the same time. As someone who does not like the Pats, it was super frustrating to watch how hard they were to stop.

Iowa had two tight ends drafted in the first round this year.

I assume it was standard big ten type offense, nothing like LSU ran last year.

well so think about what we did this past year

we ran 3 WR's, 1 TE and 1 RB - this was our 5 wide formation, our power run formation, our spread offense, all out of 1 set.

by doing this, we kept the defense in their base formation, they couldn't put 7 DB's on the field like Auburn did because we will just run for 200 yards, you can't keep LB's on the field but that's a mismatch for our TE's and Rb's

The amazing part about our offense last year is we did everything from 1 set, I don't remember much where we actually had 4 and 5 WR's on the field at the same time.

that's also why I think we need to be careful about the RB by committee approach this year. When we sub, the defense will sub. We need to find a main ball carrier and I really hope TDP or Emory are the guys

Realistically it allows you to do what 1 Dynamic TE does but double.

You can either take advantage of smaller DBs in the run game or slower LBs in the passing game.

Most teams will respond to a 2TE 1 RB set with their base personal.

If your TE can really run you can take advantage of Linebackers in coverage.

Realistically I don’t see us doing g too many 2 TE sets outside maybe the redzone

We lived in 11 personnel in 2019 and it gave us an insane amount of versatility. We could show sets with anywhere between 3-5 recovers out wide, we could go no TE, or No RB.

It keeps defensive personnel on the field, and you can exploit it. Splitting them out then tempoing to a more run oriented formation doesn’t allow a team to sub in the bodies to combat the scheme.

Basically what the Pats did with Gronk and Hernandez (gone forever).

This is wrong. Chase, Marshall, and two TE’s Is a very possible formation. Along with a runningback that is a very good formation when one of those TE is Gilbert.

As a Patriots fan, I remember vividly having Gronk and Hernandez. It was beautiful. Caused all kinds of mismatch problems and honestly it’s a shame they didn’t win the SB together.

You can have one out wide and one inline or you can spread the field with both of them out wide and a RB. This makes the playbook more versatile and allows you to spread the field out and still be able to audible into a run heavy set. It’s so many things you can do with 2 great TEs

Speaking of tight ends.

Remember dwangelo peterson from mile ford on 4th and 1 in 2010 bama?

Also Florida used the tight end shovel pass inside pretty well with Shane Matthews.

Gilbert will be at the X WR spot more than the TE position in 11 personnel.

Sit down, Les.
We know what you would do with two TEs.
Same as you would with one.
Or three.

Pretty simple. If we played two tight ends last year we would have taken Terrace Marshall off the field.
