There’s always a trade off, the difference now is, even if pitching goes south, you still have a chance to win with the hitters on this team. Manieri’s teams, not so much, except in the last couple years he was trying to get more hitters.

Y’all think Paul didn’t get bats?

Bregman
Jacoby Jones
Chinea
Josh Smith
Rhymes
Katz
Cabrera
Duplantis
Pap
Beloso
Deichmann
Stevenson
Fraley
Watson

They all say hi

They arent all home run hitters, but they were all good hitters
And I probably left out several of them.

Maineri was an elite recruiter up until his last few years. The 2018-2019 classes were bad by lsu standards.

But then pulled the 2020’ Crews/Morgan/Thompson class before he left which has set up Johnson rather nicely.

I don’t get the sense he’s as lazy as Paul.

He’s at least trying to recruit.

Hitting. Period

Can’t really compare recruiting because it’s the transfer portal era.

In general, Maineri recruited smaller more agile shortstop types and defense was a strength. Jay clearly goes for more physical types with an emphasis on hitting however we’ve seen that backfire on the field and on the base paths.

Two different philosophies. One is Les Miles, the other is Lincoln Riley. Both have weaknesses

Hitting and much better athletes, pitching injuries have stymied him for his 2nd campaign

I don’t think you understand how bad off our roster was

Crews, Morgan, Dugas, Thompson, Beloso, Travinski, Milazo, Joebert.

Pretty important group to the success we are enjoying.

Wait until next season, when these guys are gone, before we judge.

“wait till we turnover the entire lineup
to judge”

I also think he deserves some credit for guys like Milazzo, Travinski, Joebert and Beloso who have all made pretty big strides int that’s couple of seasons.

if anything Jay is a hell of a hitting coach.

JJ can care all he wants. His team has regressed in all facets of the game throughout the season

What about Morgan, Pearson Thompson and Dugas, who have all regressed from their best selves

And Beloso hit 241 in SEC games.

Jobert just got into better shape. Not sure that is the coach’s doing vs the player. Cause you wonder why they continue to let Cooper be out of shape

That was exactly the point of my post, he had a lot of smaller infield ( SS ) types with good gloves for premier defense. There’s a trade off, JJ chooses more offense.

thompson has arguable had his best 2 years thisnyear and last year.

Dugas was having his best year before his injury.

pearson is having a sophmore slump but wasn’t coached by Paul.

morgan had an insane Freshmen year but he’s still pretty damn good.

when did he hit 300 in SEC play?

I see you are not interested in having honest discussion.

I like Johnson.

Hitting guru is just a little strong.

He has two of the best hitters in the country. In a year with juiced balls. And weighs the lineup with 4 DH’s. When you sell out to do it, you should score a lot of runs

Never said he didn’t get bats but in relation to the percentage of his lineup. He didn’t have a big percentage in the lineup each year that were prolific HR hitters. That’s 14+ guys you listed and he coached there 15 years. Manieri’s philosophy was geared toward defense, all I was saying is, there’s a trade off in fielding most times when you want offensive production.

you named 4 players. 1 never played under Paul. 2 are having as good a year as they’ve ever had. 1 isn’t as good as he was as a freshmen but he’s still really good.

you pointed out Beloso’s SEC BA but didn’t point out when it was better.

and then you made up
something about Joebert, who also never swung a bat for Paul.

you want to have an honest discussion, that’s plenty to discuss.

I never disputed his recruiting ability, I just didn’t like the.fact, each year there was a small percentage of guys in the lineup that could really bang out HR’s. Jay puts a premium on guys like that ( HR hitters ) and usually there’s a trade off in fielding for offensive production. It’s all in a coach’s philosophy. I prefer the Johnson approach, that’s all. Not bashing anybody.

That's crazy. What game since game one of the Auburn series has JJ acted like he gave a rip? Any?
