re: Were the last 4 years the worst stretch of QB play in LSU history?

Shouldn't it be four years (2008-11), four seasons? 2008 was the worst for my money
Great point, i will adjust the title. How could I forget JL's pick 6 year...
I've been saying this for 4 years now, Lee wasn't that bad in 2008. Did he have a lot of interceptions? Yes. Did the defense help him AT ALL? No.
Go back and look at the offensive output that year (including Lee's). It's not nearly as bad as most LSU fans remember. The defense was simply atrocious so we were always playing from behind - this led to a lot of Lee's interceptions. Now I'm not arguing that he was great that year, or that he doesn't deserve any of the blame for the problems we had, but he was definitely a serviceable QB.

Oh yeah, this was the worst QBing, and I've seen them all from Lynn Amedee and Jimmy Fields in 1960 to now. JJ and JL were not handled well from a coaching standpoint, and I also blame the coaching for not having an adequate backup to Ryan Perrilloux. When something happened to Perrilloux we were left with Hatch, Lee, and Jefferson--all way too young and inexperienced.

Hell Hodson was one of best we ever had.
That's no saying much. He shared time w/ Guidry and Wendell Davis made Hodson
Gotta correct you on this. Hodson was the clear starter over Guidry. They would give Guidry one series per half, but Hodson was the man. As far as Wendall "making" Hodson? Davis had a great two years, but the timing routes were the bread and butter, and it takes two to make those work. It's not like Wendall was winning jump balls. And Davis only played Hodson's first two years. Hodson led LSU to an SEC Championship his junior year when Wendall wasn't even on the team. I agree with your basic point that Hodson wasn't good enough to be one of our best ever. He was a very good college QB, though. If we'd had him this past year...no, stop, STOP

So, except for the pick sixes...
And, other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

Wasnt perfect by any means. Just curious, do you think Booty was worse than JJ/JL combo?
I do. How much better was that team when saban finally benched booty and let Rohan play?
Oh and if you're gonna keep saying he was all SEC, Jefferson started a national championship game at QB, I'd say thats a pretty big accomplishment as well.

You seem to be up on QB's of past. Personally, I think the least effective starting QB was in the Charlie Mac era, a guy named Freddie Haynes. Short, slow, and couldn't pass. But he could take a physical beating like a Timex. Seems like he was forced into starter position due to injuries to someone like Nelson Stokely or Pat Screen. Can't remember exactly. Anyone recall Haynes?

Laugh if you will...
With a halfway respectable defense in '08 we win 10 games and Jefferson doesn't even see the field in '09/'10.

Jefferson was an above average LSU quarterback when you look at his stats and add his running stats to the mix.
His TD/INT ratio is a lot better than a good number of LSU QB's.

With the exception of the first 8 games of the last season, LSU QB play and LSUs offense in general has not been much to write home about since about 2008.

Anyone recall Haynes?

How about any SEC school history?

No discussion. They both did not play good, but LSU won.....Lee did great his 9 game run...#1 team in the Nation......jj never did good.....no more discussion

All of this hatred for JJ/JL should be aimed at Perriloux(sp?). If not for his boneheaded attitude the whole dual quarterback debacle quite possibly would not have happened!

Chad Loupe, Jamie Howard....up until Herb Tyler...I was in school at that time; it was TERRIBLE!

I'm far from old but no way in hell booty was horrible and sure was worse than him but Jefferson wasn't great by no means but if you play that terrible you can't win te number of games he did. I know ge didn't win many games but he also didn't lose many either

Freddie Haynes was termed "the little man with a big heart," this term immediately informing you he wasn't that effective. He had to play, I think, when Nelson Stokely was hurt, about 1965 or so. Like Jarrett Lee he wasn't ready to start. However, he threw two of the immortal passes in LSU football history, in the last couple of minutes against a thoroughbred Ole Miss team at Tiger Stadium. With LSU down 10-3 at the Ole Miss 24 or so he darted a pass to the end zone caught for a touchdown. With little time left LSU went for two. Haynes threw on a rollout, just over the tall Ole Miss defender, and Doug Moreau caught the ball with feet planted just in the end zone and leaning out over the side of the end zone. LSU 11--Ole Miss 10.
I wasn't there--just listening on the radio (at night and no TV), but I do remember the thunder of noise drowning out announcer John Ferguson's voice for a long time until finally he could then explain what had happened.

Actually just the last 4 years minus the first 8 games of 2011. Remember, Lee was the #1 rated passer in the SEC though the first 8 games.
