Houck may beat A&M and our pitchers need rest! SEC tourney is not the goal

Wouldn't surprise me. I doubt Lange starts after throwing 125 pitches Thursday. Poche and Walker won't be available. Hess will probably be used out of the bullpen again. Hopefully we can get 5-6 innings out of whoever starts and win. That would set us up perfectly for the rest of the tournament.

Ever since we moved Hess to the bullpen...we've had 3 different guys start for midweek games. Peterson, Gilbert, & Beck.

My money is on Peterson or Gilbert.

I'd be cool with going Peterson hoping he can get at least 4 or 5. Gilbert hopefully can give us a handful more. Bain is probably good for a start if needed but he hasn't started all year so I doubt he'd start in the tourney. In fact it seems like a few weeks since he's pitched... He's probably better suited as filling out the back end of one of the later games anyway.

Early in the season Peterson would be yanked quick by CPM.
Is he really the guy to pitch the first game?

I realize that Northwestern State isn't that good, but he pitched really good against them(our last midweek game).

Peterson, Gilbert, & Beck seem like our only options at this point(maybe Bain as well, but I don't see that happening personally). Who would you pick from those 3? I think they want Gilbert coming out of the bullpen.

I don't believe he did, and I think it's because they'll want Bain to be able to come in for a few if Peterson struggles early, given Bain's experience starting and relieving.

If I were a betting man I'd bet we stick with our rotation and it is Peterson's turn.

If Lange is fit, he will go Thursday with full rest. If he's a little tired and not 100% for any reason, you might see a Bain or someone else. They aren't going to risk Lange.

If Peterson starts and wins then Thursday would be Lange, win that and we advance to saturday with Poche and Walker availble. Setting up nicely for Walker to pitch Sunday against a team that may not have pitching depth like LSU does.

If we were to lose Wednesday then will be a long week.

Keep Walker on the bench this week no matter what IMO. Start Reynolds or Bain if you have to. And LSU doesn't have "pitching depth" at all really. Not every other team is like Ms State. Our bullpen depth is probably our "weakest" area at this point.

Lange will throw Thursday regardless of what happens. He will also be on a very strict pitch count

I agree. He needs to throw on next Thursday or Friday, first day of the regional. If you want to let him come out the bullpen one day and throw say 3 innings, do that, nothing more.
Lange can throw Thursday, and get some extra rests going into the regional. Same for Poche. He can throw Friday. Both shouldn't throw much more than 90 pitches at most.
