As much as CBK frustrates me he is building a monster. Will he maximize the potential?? We shall see but this current team is the deepest we’ve had since 2019 with arguably a better defense this year.

Yeah...he took a team that averaged 10 wins a year for 10 years and in 3 years he has averaged 9.5 wins a year with an extra game. Hurray!!!

He took over an LSU program that I think went six and 6, 2 years in a row

And 38 scholarship players on the roster

And the program had been running into the ground after 2019 let’s be real

I think we played a terrible bowl game with a wide receiver at quarterback do you remember that?

I think it was Garrett that sat out that game to protect his eligibility

Different things can be true at the same time.
Kelly did absolutely take over a dumpster fire with a 39 player roster and a program in steep decline. What he has done in 3 years has been beyond difficult and to have this program in the stable shape and the roster it has now in this era of NIL and Transfer Portal is pretty amazing.
However - he did make mistakes when he got here - particularly in his hiring. Matt House and the defensive staff looked great on paper but obviously that did not work out. Not keeping Raymond when he got here and not keeping Thomas after his first year are the two killer mistakes that he made. He has rectified those, however, and I believe that this program is on the path to being a consistent top 10 program.

I say it all the time, a portion of the fan base definitely doesn’t appreciate BK. He obviously hasn’t been perfect but he’s damn sure cleaned up the program from the state it was in.

He took over not only at a time when LSU was in a rough spot internally but the sport is in general had and still has a lot of changes going on that are very hard to adapt to.

The comps I always bring up are Auburn and Florida. Two programs who can’t seem to get their footing. meanwhile LSU Has won 10 games back to back, beat Bama, went to ATL then won 9 games. Those programs would kill for that 3 year stretch.

I don’t know what yall think LSU is supposed to do go 16-0 every season? Look at our history. We’ve always been a program that averages about 8 to 10 wins per season then rips off a championship about once or twice a decade. Get a grip folks! BK is a good coach and is here to stay so embrace him and support him

We will never see another team like 2019. That was a one of one. But that doesn’t mean LSU won’t win a title.

BK is definitely being given all the resources anyone could need. It’s just a matter of time before they break through. They have a legit shot this season. That’s no homer take. Experts all have them pegged right below Texas, Georgia and for some odd reason Bama. That LSU bama game is going to be another Super Bowl .

That's a good way to put it - LSU's last two years under O they definitely did not have their footing. And a bad hire would have made it worse and we still would not have it now. Kelly made some early mistakes, but the guy is a pro and he did solidify the program and found it's footing. Took a bit longer than some expected, but LSU Football is back to knocking on the door now i believe.

Well said. One bad hire after O would have set us back a decade or longer. We’d be right back in the Curly Hallman days begging for 6 wins.

All I’m saying Tiger fans is to appreciate what we have. It’s one of the best gameday experiences, iconic stadium, iconic traditions all around and a stable program that’s rising.

Hell look at ole miss they were celebrating 10 wins for the first time in program history literally just the season before last. It’s apples to oranges

I'll give my two cents. He took over a tough situation and given what he inherited the job he did year one was very good except for shitty special teams which cost us a game likely.

But in year two and 3 I think what we've seen is it took him a while to get the lay of the land here and fix his coaching staff and figure out the right players to fit in here. The defensive talent his 3 years here has been IMHO well below what we should expect at LSU.

Now the new landscape with NIL and the portal, that's new for everyone and adopting to it is a challenge for all coaches but we're paying him a lot to figure that out.

I think he's upgraded the talent on defense finally to what it should be at LSU and I do think he's finally gotten an understanding of the culture here and how to best optimize it.

Now I said i think.....i also hope....we'll see but I feel really good that we have the actual talent to play with anyone on both sides of the ball and I did not feel that way the last 3 years.

Well said on both.
I do believe that FSU team was more talented than LSU was. Also, the following one as well. Last year was a bad coaching job in the opener - no way around that. LSU was the more talented team.
And it definitely did take him a while to get the lay of the land - I believe that with Raymond here the first two years and Thomas here the last two years that could have been accelerated but those were mistakes that Kelly made that he went back and corrected.
I am a sunshine pumper with Kelly - my opinion can be changed with a bad season this year but for now I am all in.

BK has so far been a decent coach, but he has made some absolutely idiotic mistakes concerning hiring/firing, special teams, recruiting, etc. These mistakes cost him the 2023 national championship.

I'll say this for him: he is willing to humble himself and cares about winning more than saving face. That is much more than I can say for the last two coaches. It's also what leads me to believe that he will get to that next level. He's not going to let his pride (which is deserved) cripple him.

If 2019 plays Texas week 1 do they win that game? Before answering, remember how hard it was for that team to win it in week 2
The real question is "If LSU had a working air conditioner in the locker room that day, how bad do they kick Texas' arse?"

I think the first year talent was comparable but I'd agree they were more talented than us year two.

I also agree on this, we were a more talented team on a neutral field and should have won. I point blank told USC fans that after the game walking out, I was not happy.

I just don't think it is reasonable to expect a team to win a title every year or in any given year. I don't even expect that from the baseball program and my expectations there are higher than they are with football - as they should be I think. I do think it is reasonable to expect the LSU football program going forward to be a perennial contender to make the playoffs and I do think that it is a reasonable expectation for this team this year to make the playoffs. Not sure you can expect a championship - and I would say that for every program in the country. Reasonably - the LSU football program from now and going forward should be a 10 win team (maybe a random 9 win here or there), and competing for a conference championship and playoff berth 3/4 of the way through the season pretty much every season. Get there most years - fall a game short other years. That is my expectation.

Yes there are parts of this team that can be argued better than the 2019 team heading into the season.

I get that - I'll chalk that up to Kelly having and projecting confidence. Which is not a bad thing. He made mistakes primarily in hiring his first 2 years here - there is no running from that. But it seems like he has owned those mistakes. I am just saying what my opinion of reasonable expectations are and should be right now. He has to prove some things this year I believe. And I do think it is reasonable to expect to be in the playoffs this year. I expect that, and I think LSU is a playoff team this year. What happens in the playoffs depends on a lot of things.
