I like Breiden Fehoko alot, but more as a DT for a 4-3 scheme, or maybe DE in our current scheme. He's 298lbs at only 6' tall according to the LSU website. I would think Ed Alexander at nose with Fehoko and Lawrence at the 2 end spots would be our ace d-line. Then we should rotate Glenn Logan and some other guys in whenever they need a breather. I just have a feeling Alexander being the big body he his would allow Lawrence and Fehoko to make more plays. Thoughts?

We'd have nobody to back up Alexander and he cant play a lot of snaps.

Didn't we sign a few Nose tackles? What's the deal with Shelvin? No others?

Other than Lawrence our entire DLine isn’t very good. They can’t generate pass rush and they get single blocked a lot of the times by inferior offensive lineman. The number one reason we lost to Florida wasn’t our Olive sucking (which they did) it was our DLine pretty much getting mauled by Florida

Fehoko is 4th in conference in QB hurries by DL

Florida's offense scored 20 points. If you can't win a game when you allow 20 points thats not on the defense.

Shlevin is clearly in the dog house for something, he's not playing. The only other NT is Livingston and he's 380 pounds.

You can say whatever you want but the offense went up in the 4th and Florida ran it right down our throats the next drive to go up by one. That was on the defense. I’m not like those retards that blames Aranda. Players win and lose games.

He's played about 60 snaps a game this year, which you'd probably find out is way more than most DLinemen. The dude almost never comes off the field. While I'm not saying he's a BAD pass rusher, he clearly is racking up some stats by being on the field basically all the time. We basically have no DL rotation for him. When he moves from NT he just plays DE usually (every time in that 2-4-5 alignment).

Florida's offense is terrible and our defense didn't play well, there's no spinning this. No the defense wasn't a disaster but Florida had over 200 yards rushing and it all started up front with the DL not playing that well. Although I will say UF's best run plays were the chunks they got on option plays which effectively made the DL moot since it was run outside immediately. I wont blame the DL for those, just that Aranda was outflanked before the plays even started.

I thought I heard Hanagriff say that we had the most QB hurries all year during the Florida game. I was surprised to hear it, because to my eyes it looked like we weren’t getting any pressure (especially late). Maybe they were mostly in the first half? Makes me wonder if the real problem is just depth/lack of rest as opposed to it being about our players’ abilities.

The biggest issue seems to be that we haven’t had an edge rusher step up since losing Chaisson. That, and Mullen called a great game in the second half.. he did a good job of using personnel and formations to limit our options. We need our edge guys to step it up big time over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately Big Ed is having chronic knee issues and can't play a lot of snaps. Shelvin has turned out to be lazy and worthless. It's a shame because he could be a great NT if he had more drive. Dominic Livingston is 340LBs, but he's a raw freshman that probably needs a year to develop.

I agree Fehoko would be great as a 3-4 DE. That's where I want him to play, but Ed's knees and Shelvin's lazy attitude are killing us.

I understand Livingston and Shelvin are overweight and out of shape; but then again, so was Terrance Cody! I don’t understand how we would be worse off with Shelvin/Livingston (in rotatation) at NT just occupying space and plugging up holes, and Fehoka/Lawrence at DE.

You should forward this to Aranda. I’m sure he hasn’t thought about it at all.

Different times, back when Cody was playing, there were a lot less spread offenses and more power based offenses that wanted to run the ball.

Now it's all about speed and reaction, which you dont get as much with a 350 pound NT. Alexander is a bit of an enigma because he's pretty agile for a guy his size, but he still has trouble finishing plays - he can penetrate, but rarely make the play, he needs someone else to clean up for him.

Honestly, the coaches would probably do a lot better to go the Bama route and stop recruiting overweight NTs. They are a dying breed. Bama's NT is around 290 pounds, and he's an absolute beast (Quinnen Williams)

I def agree that fat NT’s wouldn’t do great against the spread and I wouldn’t go with that scheme against a true spread opponent that’s passing the ball and moving multiple personnel around. But against UF where the only thing they can do is run the ball (albeit in a spread formation), id rather have a space consumer that block stops power runs. They’re not pulling guards and opening lanes if they can’t move the interior.

This is the main reason we lost the Florida game. At crunch time, when the game was in the balance, our defensive staff was badly outcoached.

it's been dawning on all of us this is the weakness of this team. the coaches don't trust any of the freshmen to play. they won't let shelvin play for whatever reason. we've got no rotation. that is why we can't sustain our defense.
