re: We may win this series tomorrow

If you’re making a 2023 reference… not the same.
The Sunday starter and pen situation was possibly worse because of the low numbers due to injuries. We had to depend on a journeyman in Ackerman and a freshman Guidry and a few others stepping up when needed here and there. And we were still having major problems as late as Mother’s Day weekend.
So let’s not go saying things that just aren’t true. Yes, there’s no comparing the batting lineups, but don’t act like it was obvious how the pitching to get us through Omaha would line up before the postseason in 23

The lineup is good enough to win. You're not going to go out and score 8+ runs against the best teams and best pitchers. The problem is the bullpen. Tonight it's a 3-2 game after 7 and we have nobody to keep it there to give us a chance in the last 2 innings. Instead they just blow the game open. That will ultimately be the downfall of this team.

I can tell you they're better than us, though. I know that much after 18 innings.
They have used their best bullpen arms. LSU hasn’t. You should probably wait to see how Game 3 plays out before making that declaration.

We’ve peaked right at the postseason the last two years, but somehow people can’t comprehend that maybe being a pattern.

So the downfall of their team is having a 3-0 lead after 8.5 innings and losing 6-3 then, right?

Agree, however, I don’t think power is the issue. I think trying to hit for power is the issue.
Way too much swing and miss or weak contact
Not nearly enough working pitchers and scratching out hits. The bat to ball skills just aren’t there collectively.
Tennessee hits for power too but they are much more disciplined at the plate and can win by flat out hitting without relying on HRs. That’s the difference

Yet LSU has a higher batting percentage and better on base percentage than Tennessee.

Using Schmidt and Rizy wasn’t smart, but Cooper had us possibly out of the inning if Jones makes the smart play instead of trying to get fancy and blowing the out we needed. These pitchers need our fielders to make every play that’s there.
Just like when UT had back to back errors last night, a defensive mistake left the door open. UT, to their credit, jumped on it just like we did.
Fontenot actually looked good outside of the hit batter. And that was against the top of their order.

He threw strikes, which automatically puts him at 3rd or 4th out of the pen. I know Cooper gave up the home run, but he should have been out of the inning with 0 runs given up, I think he’s the best left handed option at this point.

We don't even have a Sunday starter right now
And no, the pen situation was definitely not worse in 2023, also there's the small matter of 2023 also having the best pitcher of multiple generations.
No, this is nothing like 2023.

i have concerns in Omaha. just because you need to win 3 games against top teams.
but I like our chances 2/3 against any team in the country and in a regional we can beat a 4seed and then its basically 2/3 with the 2 seed with our weekend pitching. again i like our chances 2/3 against anyone.

May 1 2023 how many pitchers were you confident in?
Skenes for sure
Floyd? He was getting lit up every other week.
Herring? He was getting lit up every other appearance
Not Heard
Not Little
Not Ack
Not Cooper
in 2023 we had 3 pitchers with conference ERAs below 5
2 of them blew out their elbows.

Ack, Cooper, Herring, Guidry and Hurd were better then than literally every bullpen arm we have now not named Evans and Cowan

In 2023, you referred to our pitching as "terrible" and "shallower than a kiddie pool".

I mean I haven't watched tennessee on a regular basis to know if their relievers consistently do that or not. But I do know that LSU's relief pitching has been terrible outside of Cowan and Evans.
Like I said you have to have guys you can rely on out the pen to either keep a game close if you're behind or protect a lead if you're ahead. If Cowan and or Evans aren't available we don't have that. It's not too late for someone to emerge and figure it out but I don't really see anyone who looks to be on the cusp of that.
I think Noot may be a guy to give a look at on the weekend and see how he does but I haven't seen anything promising from anyone. Everytime I think someone might be getting over the hump they go out and shite the bed.
