I honestly don't understand both Phillips and Queen leaving. Their draft grades can't be high.

No, we lost 2 1/2 starters.

I don't count the same as you. I see us losing Queen, Phillips, Chaisson, and Divinity. Those would have been the top LB when we deployed a base 3-4 defense barring suspensions.
I do see Clark, Brooks, and Baskerville as being quality replacements who have played a lot when the game was on the line.

The draft analyst for The Athletic said that Queen's 2nd half had moved himself into his top 100 (LB4). I don't know what Phillips' grade is like.
I had heard rumblings that Phillips was leaving. I had hoped to keep Queen. That Defensive MVP in the title game ended that hope.

This is the position group I am most interested in watching this offseason. Anxious to see what these incoming freshmen are made of and who will make the biggest impact. White, Sampah, Webb and Ojulari must be drooling at this opportunity.

OLB - Anthony, Cherry, Little, Webb
MLB - Baskerville, White
MLB - Clark, Starks, Sampah
OLB - Stevens (Hybrid), Thornton, Brooks (Hybrid), Fonua, Ojulari

Could Ray Thornton move to the middle?
Maybe we re-sign Tyler Taylor from Holmes CC

OLB Thornton, Anthony, fonua, Parker, little(WEBB, BJ)... may best man win
LB Clark
LB Baskerville, Stark's, (sampa, white) may best man win

LOS Hybrid stevensBrooks may both be playing LB next year and we may go with thumper at other two spots.

I only see 1 obvious starters 3 if you count stevens brooks as LB..

DL
NT: shelvin ika guillory DE: Farrell, Logan, Thomas, Roy... is looking strong.
DB
CB: stingley, flott, Jones, ward, Ricks very strong.
S: Hampton, Monroe, Harris, Lewis, toles is looking strong.
Back end hybrid: Vincent

Our defense is going to come back strong.... LB will be fine with the experience we have on line, and I think as crazy as it is to say.... we may somehow be faster next year will deal with some missed tackles in beginning of year but I think these dudes are going to tighten it up and be a strong team ...
big questions are on offense now

He is perfect for this defense
Fly to the ball and make plays

Baskerville could take that Duke Riley leap this year.

Remember he recovered the Tua fumble. So that tells me coach Aranda trusts him in a high capacity. Maybe his coverage skills are suspect, but he was in the game with Bama driving on their first series in the red zone.

Makes me think he is a sure tackler and good at run stop/ Gap assignment.

There will be talent in the LB core, just missing experience, so they make miss some plays and look shaky early, but will be good to go by mid season.

Webb needs to add a lot of strength before he starts. I say Anthony/Thornton, Clark, Baskerville/White,Stevens.

I think we go more 4-3 next year or 3-3-5 so 4 starting LB will be rare. Other than Damone Clark and Brooks as a pass rusher I’d say it’s a complete tossup and whoever impressed in camp. Could be a senior like Thornton or Anthony and it could be a freshman like Sampah.

Yeah, I believe that Josh White may be the most underrated of all the LSU signees (not that he is lowly rated anyway). And another underrated guy is McGlothern...not a LBer but he looked like a college starter in the All Star game he played in. Great talent and just baits QBs on throws. He had 2 INTs and another one he could have had. The defense is going to be at least as good as this year's.

Sampah needs to get healthy well ahead of fall camp.

The foot injury held him back this past season. Need him to show up at camp in top shape if he’s gonna learn the roles and compete.

Agree. Need to see him fully healed up physically and mentally before I'm counting on him next year.

We are gonna be talented but Young. Guys are gonna be lost a little early but by the last quarter of the season we should be stout. Just have to rely on the secondary and DL to anchor while they get their feet under them. If they can make a few plays a game in big spots then maybe we can make it to Bama with 1 loss at worst and see what happens from there. Gonna be real interesting to see O respond to the adversity that comes with winning. He hasn't let us down thus far and I don't expect him to this time.
