We know the offense sucks, but what is gameplan going forward with mobile quarterbacks?

Sellers, Reed, Pavia are going to eat us alive with their feet if we can't figure that out. Do we have Perkins be more of a traditional spy? That takes him out of his game a bit. Focus on contain more like Chavis used to do and make them beat us with their arms?

We were gashed by Ferris St.'s legs at the worst times.

Not really a concern at all imo.

The defense made plenty of stops and some at key moments but our offense would just go 3 and out and give the ball right back. There's only so much a defense can do. Giving up some rushing yards is going to happen when the team has the ball at all times.

its better than leaving him on every passing down 3rd and long and having him in coverage leaving noone to spy the QB. I swear both our coordinators have this thing where they try to be too cute instead of doing what works. we should've blitzed him on every 3rd down but we rarely did

Defense made stops, but if not for that fumble on a huge play by Ole Miss, this game could've been worse. And it felt like when they needed yards to keep a drive going, they got it from the QBs legs way too easily.

Good news is I do trust Baker to make adjustments accordingly. Auburn figured out Marcel Reed so we have film there.

Some will claim the defense will be good enough, but Baker once again proved he has no idea how to contain a mobile QB. Other teams have done it successfully, but even when he has some of the best talent in the country, Baker has continually failed at this.

I think the defense is very good (not generational like some think), and we are so used to bad defense under Kelly, that even strong defense is overblown into a great one.

They are not good enough to beat any of the teams on the schedule remaining outside of maybe Arkansas (if they quit) and WKU purely with the defense.

This defense couldn't even sniff the weakest point of the 2011 defense, but I digress, it is the best part of the LSU team and is nothing close to being the counter-equivalent of the 2023 offense.

Ole Miss made utterly stupid and self-inflicted penalties on offense, too, yet they moved the ball at will for the majority of the game.

The offense sucking is the main reason the defense gave up plays against Ole Miss. The offense has to at least be able to sustain some drives or Kiffin will wear your arse out, no matter how good you are.

Playing against an offense that runs an up tempo is hard as hell and wears you out. Throw in the number of plays they ran because our offense couldn't stay on the field for more than 4 plays and the 85 Bears would have eventually worn down and given up big plays.

Match them with a mobile QB.

this.

We don’t have kicking or defense problems. We have no offense

That and this complimentary football concept. We can’t do that either. Just let it all hang out on offense. Is 3 and out and punt on 4th and 6 that much different than 4th and 10.

No, it isn't. The defensive game plan was awful after Ole Miss made adjustments following the first two drives.

Baker refused to adjust and it showed, especially with Ole Miss' offense trying to help out with stupid penalty after stupid penalty.

The LSU defense simply countered that in one drive with their own stupid penalties, but that wasn't the biggest issue. The scheme was ridiculously bad.

Going forward we should score more than 24pts and we'll be in the playoffs

Adjustments are always made, and I get what you're saying, but if you couldn't see the difference in reaction times and movement times from the beginning of the game to those from mid-2nd quarter on, you weren't watching. Those boys were spent.

Ever played against an uptempo offense with a mobile QB? I have. That shite wears you out and you need your offense to sustain drives consistently to stay remotely fresh.

Ole Miss had their longest drive, 18 plays for 83 yds, on their 3rd possession.

The first 2 were 3 and outs, so the defense was fresh

Yeah, I know the defense was gassed in the second half, but they weren't in control after the first 2 drives. Well before they had extended periods of play to wear them down.

24 points on the road at Ole Miss is enough to win, but it likely should've been more than that. That fumble on the goal line and absurd penalties from the Rebels really helped us out.

Again, this is 90% on the offense. My point in making this thread was really talking about mobile QBs because we're going to face more of them who are likely even better. We have to figure that out, we had no answers.

Were you expecting a shutout? A team scoring, or even a broken play doesn't mean your defense sucks.

An early score from Ole Miss does not discount any of my points.
