Not because of him or the offense, though. The defense lost that game, led by Hawkins and Rahim Alem.

if jefferson is leading the offense to an average of 34 points a game, that should be enough to win.

if it's not enough to win, then our problem isn't at QB.

Okay, now that I can agree with. Simply saying that all we need him to do is not throw pick sixes is understating it.

uh, JLee led that same LSU squad to almost 31 points per complete game. We lost 3 of those.

what's wrong with the optimism?

No shite. We are absolutely loaded with talent and good coaching. My question is what athlete does not want to win? Especially given LSU's recent success. Loaded with 4 & 5 star players and your gonna tell them they can't win it all?
Screw that mentality. I look for great things from this team this year.

and im certainly going to be braced if Jefferson flops
Honest question: does that really help?

I spent a good portion of the '90s trying to "brace" myself for disappointing seasons by tempering optimism and trying not to expect success. And what I found was that 4-7 was just as disappointing and frustrating to me when I was expecting 5-6 as it was when I was expecting 10-1. I am always disappointed and frustrated when LSU loses, and predicting it never made me feel any better about it. If it helps others, more power to them. But I noticed that the other people around me acted pretty much the ssame when they had been pessimistic before the season as they had when they had been optimistic before the season. So I didn't really see it do them any good, either. So I decided to take the upside of being excited all summer about how awesome our team will be, since there's absolutely zero upside to looking at it any other way.

if you will read the thread, you will see where i said that i expect somewhere around a 9-3 season

So is 9-3 optimistic? pessimistic? or realistic?

You asked, "why all the optimism." My point is that as bad as we played last year, we were close to 9-3. I expect 10-2 because we will have better QB play, UGA and BAMA have new QBs, and our defense wil play better! The schedule will be tough, so 9-3 is realistic to me.

So JJ will be successful because he doesn't throw pick 6's? That's what we're hanging our hat on this season for success? Well, he didn't throw any against Ark. and we lost anyway. Gonna take more than that boys.

It's going to take better defense which LSU will have.

he also threw 16 interceptions, with 7 returned for TD's.

or did you forget that pretty important part?

The offense scored 7 points after halftime. Ark had JJ totally figured out. He was limited in what he could do and it showed in the second half. The d didn't help because we needed them to hold the rope and they didn't, but we didn't simply lose that game due to d.

You're not going to find out anything about LSU or anybody on the team until the Georgia game with the miserable schedule leading up to that game.

I haven't read all of this thread, but besides the GTech game, I was really impressed with Jefferson's high school achievements. I know it's not the SEC by any means, but 5A football in Louisiana is no joke. You have to have pretty big balls to lead a team to an undefeated state championship in that class. It doesn't always translate to the next level, but that's usually due to a lack of talent/skills. Jefferson is not lacking. I was pretty pumped about him before he ever took a snap.

me too

he was pretty raw at the beginning of last year, but he really impressed me with some of the good habits he had as a natural athlete.

wasn't he like 21-0 as a starter in highschool, winning the 5A championship back to back?

I mean, like you said, highschool isn't everything but... god damn...

Well hell if we are going off of high school performances, Auburn has a freshman QB that is going to be the next Tim Tebow and Greg McElroy, who all of you think is a joke, is going to be the best college QB ever because he won the Texas 5A state title as a senior.

Uh, the defense is on the sideline when the Pick-6's are being returned for touchdowns. You guys that never let up for J.L. have to be baseball/stat guys, and I'm being generous.
