Do you disagree that there is an expectation that this team is talented enough to play in Atlanta, and many would be disappointed when/if it doesn't happen?
I don't disagree with that, but I don't disagree with it for the reason I just stated...far too many fans (not just LSU's) are unable to take of their team's colored glasses and truly asses their chances.
Yes...this year's LSU team is VERY VERY talented. But you know what? So is BAMA. They are both in the SECW...and like Highlander, there can be only one. That's assuming neither team losing to any other SEC foe except LSU/BAMA...which isn't exactly a given.
What I'm saying basically is that it's those types of unrealistic expectations that DRIVE the unhappiness you see here so often. To expect an SEC crown, something LSU has only done a handful of times in its long and storied history, simply because LSU may well field the most talented team in the league (an assumption that is highly debatable at that) is a recipe for being miserable...even if the Tigers have a wonderful, but not championship season.

To "expect" a team to win the national title is insane. Think of all the things that have to break right even for a great team to win the NC. Even the '01 Hurricanes didn't win the title.
Most of the time I am content to have a good shot at a title (which I define as having as good a chance as anyone else). This year seems to be one of those years. ...But there has been a year where I expected to win a title (only one). It was just a feeling I had. It was 2007. I must be insane...

Thank you for willing us to a title, I had an awesome time that year.

Well, high expectations expectations are just one of the problems a team like LSU (great recruiting, solid coaching staff) has to deal with. It's not such a bad problem to have as a fan.

I'm just glad we did... I was a shite-talking machine in 2007. Hell, we were down 10 points to UF in the 4th and was still talking shite. It was freaking awesome. But then when we lost to Arkansas I was getting it bad... hahahaha.

I'm not disagreeing...just defining what I consider to be realistically high expectations.
In a division that boasts the last 3 national champions, plus Arkansas which has been to Atlanta as recently as 2006, and Ole miss which plays LSU tough nearly every year (including when that other guy used to be here)...I think being in the hunt for the divisional title is a hell of a great thing. If you are, it means you're in line for so much more.
No team is so talented in the SEC that it ought to expect to win the SEC and expect anything less than that to be a major let down or cause for concern.

Your point?
The point is that had Flynn QB'd JR's last year we would have won back to back Championships - 06 and 07

IMO Les will be more quick this year to make a change than last.
What on earth would lead you to seriously believe this?

Well as it turned out, JJ was the best qb last year. Lee finally got his playing time against a cupcake and we as fans finally got to see what Les Miles knew all along. Lee wasn't better. Better at times... YES. Better for 4 quarters NO.
ARE YOU frickING SERIOUS? When did Lee ever play 4 Q's, brah? the fact is nobody knows - he's never been given the chances JJ has been given. Sure he has his poor moments but are you going to tell me JJ hasn't either??? If not for Lee we would have lost a few games last year. He bailed JJ in a few situations and deserved the opportunity to start - never got that chance - even against McNeese!

You are a moron.

When you have the best talent in America and don't maximize potential - it's fail. We didn't get the ball to our receivers last year. What was our national Offensive rank? And the tons of you foolish idiots attempting to claim JJ was suffice?
Your brilliance is overwhelming.
Your brilliance is overwhelming.

I think a BCS bowl game would be sufficient for this team, but it certainly has the potential to play in Atlanta.
You are not listening. You think you are, but you are not.
quote:That may be your nature. Don't project.
Different people will judge a team on what they feel is the potential, and then at the end of the season, what is the reality and the difference between the two. Just human nature.
quote:There are many things that can be improved or not improved to get to and past Atlanta.
I think we all agree LSU will need an improved QB position to get to and past Atlanta though.
I hope Jefferson plays better than he did in 2010. I think a 2009 performance will be good enough.
I hope the defense plays better than it did against Arkansas and Auburn.
I hope the playcalling is better than it was in 2010.
I hope the pass protection is better than it was in 2010.

That Matt Flynn's wizarding powers enabled him to ensure that LSU's 10-2 record with 2 SEC losses was good enough to make it to the SECCG in Atlanta in 2007, whereas Russell (not a wizard) was unable to ensure that his 2006's 10-2 record and 2 SEC losses were good enough.
Flynn's offense scored more than enough points in both defeats to win em all...it's our defense that let us down at Kentucky and against Arkansas...and some pretty bone headed undisciplined penalties that kept both opponents drives alive that lead to their victory...
Just two more examples of how a Les Miles lead team fails when it has the opportunity to control it's own destiny...

It's all about the final record, baby! Never mind whether you play well relative to your ability or win championships.

When you are your own worst enemy and the coaching is sub-par when it matters most there is always a reason for concern...you must seize the moment when it presents itself...we have not done well with Miles as HC in terms of controlling our own destiny...think about it...

You're right, for any given year. But over a span of years, championship-level talent should translate to championships. Don't know why people are offended by that idea.
