I decided to take a break from LSU baseball and look ahead (way ahead). Here's a quick write-up I did. Decided to lay it on the rant (and, likely, let it get ripped apart).

WASHINGTON: Our Tigers travel to PAC-1(0) territory for a really strange out-of-conference game. I hope nobody is calling this a trap game -- the Huskies definitely have a quarterback in Jake Locker (I believe he is good for the lone TD), but other than that and a little bit of jet lag, I don't see a whole lot of difficulty for the Tigers in this one. Did I mention the Huskies' 0-12 record last season? (W LSU-35 WASH-7)

VANDERBILT: LSU opens at home against a fresh Vandy squad. I'm going to go ahead and throw out the fact that Vanderbilt finished with a better SEC record than LSU last year because it's a new season and things change every week in the SEC, even more so every season. Vandy keeps it close in the first quarter, but the Tigers abundance of athleticism leaves Vandy behind. (W LSU-28 VANDY-10)

UL-LAFAYETTE: Oh man. I'm probably more excited about this game than I should be -- this game will just be fun. UL finished with a mediocre 6-6 record last season, and that was with star players Michael Desormeaux under center, Jason Chery who received for 656 yards and 7 touchdowns and Tyrell Fenroy, who rushed for over 1,000 yards 4 years in a row -- all of which will be missing this season. Despite UL's hunger to become a miracle underdog, LSU will burn the Cajuns. (W LSU-31 UL-10)

MISSISSIPPI ST.: Don't sleep on this one. Mississippi State's recent hire puts Dan Mullen in charge -- a confusing move for many. You never know, though -- Les Miles took the Tigers to 11-2 his first season, so perhaps some new blood will inspire this squad. All analysis aside, LSU takes this one and keeps the Bulldogs to one score. (W LSU-27 MSU-7)

GEORGIA: Many would have you believe that this is where the season actually begins for the Tigers, but take this with a grain of salt. In the massive grinder that is the SEC, anything can happen. Anything. With that said, it's a little irritating to know that this game will likely be played during the day -- something no Tiger fan enjoys. The Bulldogs are likely seen as the underachievers of 2008, comparatively speaking -- Georgia was predicted to be the team to beat last season, although injuries were partly to blame for Georgia's overall performance. However, an underachieving Georgia squad still stomped out our Tigers 52-38 last October. Georgia's new QB Joe Cox will surely have settled into the position by now, making the Georgia squad almost as potent as it was last season, especially if the Bulldogs have a healthy O-Line. I'll probably catch a lot of fire for this, but I still have our Tigers playing their hearts out and pulling out a come-from-behind win. (W LSU-24 UGA-21)

FLORIDA: Primetime. This will likely be the most hyped game of the 2009-2010 season for the Tigers. I especially love the fact that this game (like all 7 of our home games) is at night. The Tigers will have their work cut out for them against the defending national champions. The Tigers were utterly embarrassed last year in the swamp 51-21, so I know LSU will be looking for payback. Florida's 2009 schedule is appallingly weak, save for games against Georgia and LSU. Florida also has a week off prior to their match-up with LSU, whereas LSU comes off of a tough game against the Bulldogs in Baton Rouge. I don't think this year will be a blow-out, but I still don't think LSU will land on its feet in time to take the Gators and their 20+ returning starters. (L LSU-21 FL-24)

AUBURN: After coming off of a tough game with Florida, LSU will take on an Auburn squad led by new coach Gene Chizik -- a decision that had a few (understatement) Auburn fans fuming. This game will likely have a pinch of drama like almost every match-up between the two has, however the BYE week leading up to this game and nighttime in Deaf Valley will push the LSU Tigers out over Auburn's. (W LSU-27 AU-17)

TULANE: (W LSU-42 TUL-3)

ALABAMA: The Tigers travel to T-Town for an exciting chance at revenge. 'Bama will be short one QB, although by the time this game rolls around (was that a pun?), 'Bama will have it's QB battle decided, and either Star Jackson or Greg McElroy will be ready to remain under center. 'Bama will also be short 2 senior linebackers, but 9 returning starters on defense will be sure to mix things up for LSU's evolving offense. 'Bama's biggest weakness will likely be the losses up front. I'd like to say our Tigers can grind their way to a W, but unless the Tigers decide to shut me up with an upset, I'm feeling an L in Tuscaloosa (in Overtime). (L LSU-24 BAMA-27)

LA.TECH: If there is any trap game during the LSU 2009-2010 season, this is it. Though, I don't think La. Tech will be a problem for the Tigers. This is our homecoming game -- combine that with nighttime in Tiger Stadium and the Tigers will pull out a solid W. (W LSU-42 TECH-13)

OLE MISS: Houston Nutt's Rebels won't be sneaking up on anybody this season. Last season, the under-the-radar Rebels walked away with a 9-4 record, including a surprising bowl win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. 2009 will be different, however. Ole Miss is looking promising for the upcoming season, but I feel as though a heightened state of awareness will help lead LSU over Dexter McCluster and Jevan Snead at Hollingsworth. (W LSU-27 MISS-17)

ARKANSAS: After a heartbreaking loss in the final seconds of last year's match-up (and a triple-Overtime loss the year before that), the Tigers will be on the prowl. The Tigers will (hopefully) wrap this one up quick and be well on their way to Atlanta. (W LSU-35 ARK-17)

I realize a 10-2 prediction is brazen, almost ignorant. Many would say that LSU should be ecstatic to get to 9-3 this coming season. I'm a stern believer in heart, as naive as it sounds. Also, you'll notice I haven't listed any W as a blowout. This is because Les will put in 2nd and 3rd stringers towards the end of any sure win games -- another reason to respect the Hat. I can't wait for September.

TL;DR - LSU finishes with a 10-2 record and gets to the Sugar Bowl.

Is it September yet?

I don't think LSU beats Tulane by 39 pts. LSU will likely win by 14-21 IMO.

I'd be pretty pumped about 10-2.

You could argue that about almost every comment made on this website.

That's a pretty reasonable prediction. I could definitely see LSU finishing the regular season at 9-3 or 10-2. I think Florida is most likely a loss. And LSU will go either 1-2 or 2-1 against UGA, Ole Miss, and Bama. I agree with you and think LSU will go 2-1, but the loss could come against any one of those teams.

It will be interesting to see which team gets the SEC's second BCS bid.

What would you consider a blowout?

Really? What would make you think we beat one of the worst teams in college football by such a slim margin?

Well, to me, a blowout is in the same vein as a shutout -- as in, no points posted by the opposing team.

UGA, Ole Miss, and Bama.

yea, those 3 are up in the air for me. im leaning towards 2-1, cant decide if the loss comes to bama or uga though, no offense rebs. if lsu's offense is geared up by the time they roll into athens i like our chances against them more just because bama has a much better defense. i dont think lsu winning either of those games would be much of an upset though. at this point i think uf is a loss, but being at home, if the defense is keyed up for this one and plays at their best, i think the offense takes care of itself and makes enough plays to put the onus on the lsu defense to make a game changing play or two. you cant just expect to play a perfect game against them especially what we saw from this unit last year.

right now im at 10-2. just dont know if that puts us in atlanta because if we have 2 losses and 1 comes to bama i feel they will be there, but we'll see how it all shakes out when they, you know, actually play the games

As with most things, this is purely speculation. Though I'm aware that upsets can and will happen, I still believe that the heart of the season doesn't begin until Georgia.

Florida will be very interesting, IMO. Though it was a 30 point blowout last year, everyone seems to forget that after surrendering 20, we pulled within six. The beating that followed was determined by a lot of things... ie. poor QB decisions, poor coverage, and home field advantage from playing in the Swamp. I remain convinced that this was the only game last year that could not have been salvaged were it not for self-injurious play.

This year depends entirely on the defense and whether expectations can meet reality. If the unit as a whole truly has reverted back to the defenses of old, then I see no reason why we can't pull out another 28-24 upset at home. Tebow may be an ESPN-proclaimed god, but it remains to be seen how much the losses of Harvin and Murphy are going to affect him.

As far as Alabama goes, the turnover on the OL that we witnessed against Utah begs to question how the that group will perform this year. I look for Rahim Alem and Drake Nevis to have HUGE years, and if Al Woods can have the breakout year that everyone seems to believe he will, our front four can be dominant again. And LSU fans know all too well the pains of breaking in a new QB, even in the later stages of the season. The trend in this series tends to favor the visiting team, and I look for that to continue.

I haven't really decided how to judge Ole Miss. Losing Peria Jerry will be big, as we was nearly single-handedly responsible for halting many of our drives... we'll have to wait and see if the team finds a suitable replacement. And once again, if our defense regains its swagger and form, I see no reason why they can't shut down Tebow and Snead. The X factor here is Houston Nutt... as a motivator, he works wonders, as an opportunist, he seems to be dangerously inept.

I believe, as all fans should, that the team should and will go undefeated. I do not believe we have anything to fear in Alabama. I believe that Georgia will be a tough game, as will Ole Miss, but the two are also very winnable. Expect Florida to reach a radioactive level similar to 2007.

Either way, a two-loss team in the West gets a SECCG bid. Lots of disjointed stream-of-consciousness in this response, but it's how I think.

i'm gonna be really pissed off if there is another hurricane this year that fricks our city and our football season up. after reading the best of the best for 2011 thread on the recruiting board, september cant get here fast enough. also, aside from our kick arse baseball team, april through september blows.

Which is ridiculous. Approximately what has happened with our program where we have an excuse for taking a two year break? There's no excuse whatsoever for more than two regular season losses.

True. I just think the SEC will be a huge grinder next season. It won't be an easy ride for anyone -- unless you're Florida -- what a schedule.

The SEC is brutal every year. Split the four tough games, win all the rest, and there you have it... 10-2.
