How’s the big man from GCU looking?

I've only made a couple of scrimmages, and I feel like Jay will do what he can to get Yorke's bat in the lineup. I only saw him play 1B in one of the scrimmages, and I didn't see anything that would make me think he couldn't play 1B. Jay has played several people at 1B. Yorke, Arrambide, Dardar, Yamin, and Pearson are ones that I've seen. I may be missing someone as well.

Who else on the staff do you all see making significant impact?
I’d be surprised if Evans wasn’t your Friday night guy.

Cowan may have the same role as last year, but could also see him taking Evans role of piggybacking Friday or Saturday starter and if not needed then starting Sunday.

Outside of Jay Johnson, I might be the highest on Cooper Williams. I like him as your Saturday starter.

Then you have Guidry. He was a potential starter last year before his injury. He could be used in any role that’s needed.

Man, we are so stacked. And that’s not considering new players and Freshman to Sophomore jumps from guys like Rizy and Schmidt.

It will be crucial for Serna to be able to contribute to help keep Arrambide fresh. If Arrambide continues to progress his bat will not be able to come out the lineup on weekends. Could play 1B or DH on the days he is not behind the plate. Offseason workouts/conditioning and during season recovery will be huge to keep Arrambide productive at the plate.

The freshman Mason Braun is really making loud contact this fall and exceeded my expectations thus far. Very matured physically from the left side of the plate who should see plenty of at bats at DH assuming Yorke sticks at 1B. I wish they would take more looks at him with 1B to see if he would be a better fit there defensively.
I've been absolutely impressed with his pitch selection and plate discipline considering he's a freshman and comes from an area where baseball competition may be lacking. Kid gets on base at a high clip and he is a ball magnet and not scared to take one for the team. Jay will give him opportunities come springtime if he continues to produce as he has in fall practice.

He will have to drastically improve to have any role outside of what he was last season. He has over 50% K rate and the worst OBP of the team in fall. 19K in 37 PA as of the stats from scrimmages I have now.

I was ready to talk baseball right after we won the CWS....never too early to talk LSU baseball.

Last season, he was a redshir,t so I think he can't have a lesser role.

Damn. Yamin seems like a great guy, and I am pulling for him. But I watched him catch on Saturday, and can't see him pushing Arranbide or Serna for playing time.

Yamin K’d 38% last year between the Cape Cod League & LSU offseason sessions. He’s ruining out of time to curtail the strikeouts

Yorke has looked like a starter def and off. Caraway defense has been pretty good.

Exactly my point. He can still be the hype man and good locker room guy.

Braun will end up starting and playing a lot. He’s kind of like Dickinson in how he just loves baseball.

I can see that. Jay has said before fall even started that he is probably the most ready hitter of the freshmen coming out of high school.

As of now I think the competition for DH is between Braun and Harden when just looking at the fall. Curious to see come spring if Serna or Pearson can try to work their way into that role.

I think 2B and 3B will have Simpson, Caraway, Reaves, and Dardar but as of now I have Braun and Harden ahead of any of them for DH.

Am I correct that Dalton Beck was denied another year? There was never a bad word said about the guy, did he hang up the spikes?

I would assume you are correct. He is not on this team. I don't think he was granted any extra eligibility.

I don’t think he got extra year or if he did maybe he decided it was time to move on with life

Stanfield made two awesome catches in left and got a key bunt down against slu - he is definitely your left fielder

Caraway also pretty much made all the routine plays at 3b against slu

Curiel had two nice hits at crucial part of slu game and both were opposite field with slu shifting him
He’s the best hitter with bat control since Todd walker
