re: Way Too Early 2019 LSU Baseball Lineup

I just looked through the 2018 LSU baseball media guide and the last thing I'll say comparing Andrew Stevenson to Zach Watson is that Stevenson, unlike Watson, never once in three years was caught stealing attempting to steal first base from second base.

Please elaborate. He has good enough stuff to be an effective college pitcher, but he does not have a high ceiling for being much more than that IMO. His fastball has hovered around 90 mph, topping out at around 92, and he doesn't have a devastating breaking ball like Lange, Nola, Hilliard, Hess etc. When he's on and hitting his spots, sure he's very valuable for this team
Gilbert tops out well above 92 - more like 95. And he has movement on it. His offspeed pitches are not great, but when he is on he dominates good hitting teams. His problem is consistency not ability.
From his biography:
2017 Season
Appeared in 28 games (five starts), posting a 7-1 mark and a 2.16 ERA in 58.1 innings with 12 walks, 67 strikeouts and a .190 opponent batting average ... in his last 12 appearances of 2017, Gilbert was 5-0 with a 0.84 ERA in 32.2 innings while allowing three earned runs on 17 hits with seven walks and 36 strikeouts ... recorded a 4-0 mark and a 0.77 ERA in LSU’s postseason games (five appearances, two starts), allowing just two earned runs in 23.1 innings with five walks and 26 strikeouts ... defeated Oregon State (June 24) in the College World Series to send LSU into the CWS Finals – Gilbert worked 7.1 innings in the contest, limiting the top-ranked Beavers to one run on two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts

Saddest thread I’ve ever seen

Russian, what did you think of Swaggerty at South Alabama? I didn't get to catch that game. Was he as good as advertised?
Posted on 5/7/18 at 9:16 pm to Stephen1979
He really didn't stand out...but it's a very small sample size.
One other player gave us fits. We literally couldn't get him out and he hit a couple wallbangers. I don't remember his name. Maybe 1b or DH??

We suck. Why can’t we get new great pitchers like we used to.
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:21 pm to Bradentu2
Like Hess, Storz, Walker, Labas, and Hilliard??
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:24 pm to ProjectP2294
Based on Thebes fact that this lineup isn’t showing any real elite talent
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:26 pm to Bradentu2
Did you register today just to shite up baseball threads?
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:30 pm to Thacian
We have got to get somebody better than slaughter
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:36 pm to Bradentu2
Is josh smith elite? Cabrera? Watson? Duplantis? Do you not consider them elite?
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:36 pm to josh336
Don't engage. He signed up today and every post he's made are bashing the baseball team.
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:37 pm to ProjectP2294
I started a thread about him on the Help Board just now.
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:41 pm to ProjectP2294
Hold up man. I never meant to bash the baseball team. I am just concerned about this season damaging the face of the program.
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:46 pm to Bradentu2
So saying "we suck" and "they're trash" and "why can't we get good players" is not bashing the baseball team?
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:49 pm to LSURussian
It’s not bashing because we don’t suck. We just need to finish the season strong and get some new talent next year
Posted on 5/7/18 at 10:58 pm to Bradentu2
Also I’m not shiteing it up because I’m just telling it the way that I see it.

A blind man shouldn't talk about what he sees

He is just inconsistent with his release and not great at repeating his mechanics. His arm talent is borderline elite, but when he is off he gets behind in the count early gets pounded because he starts throwing get me over fastballs. Against Oregon state you saw how good he can be. A low 90s fastball with natural arm side run and a pretty nasty breaking pitch made the best lineup in the country look silly for 7 innings.

I posted something akin to this in an in game thread, but the thread was moving so fast it probably didn’t get any attention. I’ve changed it somewhat and it’s just a hypothetical just for creative discussion. Why couldn’t we do the following around the infield:
Bain 1B or 2B (taking Broussard out for Bain’s bat.. someone would have to play 1B obviously (Coomes?)
Broussard 2B (or Bain)
Slaughter SS (better hitter than Hughes, arm same level, range decent and I think was a touted SS out of high school?)
Reid 3B (without Smith available) for on base %
Feduccia C
Yes. I know it seems odd. But Hughes doesn’t offer much with a bat (I know he’s developing), but don’t we have like 4 SS’s on the roster? Hell. Put Cabrera in CF and put Watson at SS (he was a SS, but given his defense in CF this would prob be insane, but his range at SS would be pretty good). Maybe Dups in CF?). Dups has RF locked and Beau has been serviceable in LF. Or anything like that. I’m just looking at ways to get a little more power and on base % in the lineup.
Again, this lineup gets some power and batters that put the ball in play with velocity?? Might be too late or unecessary, but again, just a hypothetical. Obviously the coaches know better.
Thoughts?
