One of the LSU women's gymnasts is expected to become a millionaire off of NIL. That's not nearly as big of a sport as basketball. A player can make as much as he wants if he gets the right agent. That's right, they can sign with talent agencies now to help them ink these big endorsement deals.

Dude, Alabama's QB has already inked $800k in endorsements and he's completed 13 passes his entire college career. I'm pretty sure some potential SEC players of year can swing $100k worth.

Alabama is likely the most profitable program in ALL of college football (from a marketing standpoint). As much as I hate to say it, being the QB for them is like being the QB for the Cowboys in terms of marketing exposure.

I love LSU basketball as much as the next guy (probably more), but there is just not that much interest outside of Louisiana (and, sadly, there still isn't that much interest in Louisiana). Could they have scraped together deals close to $100k? Maybe. But then they would find out about something called taxes. And truth be told, they both ALREADY got pretty nice "signing bonuses" to come to LSU (and before you lose your shite, so did every other top recruit at every other school)

Could they have stayed another year at LSU, got free room, board, and other amenities, while also making some NIL cash on the side? Sure. But I doubt another year would have vaulted either into first round picks...which is really all that matters in terms of the draft.

I don’t get what people are saying. Y’all think both guys were told that they 100% were going to get drafted, then didn’t get drafted? I’d imagine nba teams told them they probably won’t get picked.

Waterford could have improved his stock big time by coming back. Smart not so much.

You left out that she's a hot female with over a million Instagram followers. Javonte has <50K followers. She's also a rare case. All college gymnasts aren't becoming millionaires. Javonte would not have made $100K in NIL next year.

2 way players can earn $462K if they’re active for the full 45-50 games with the NBA team. I believe the minimum is around $80k if Watford spends every game in the G league, which isn’t likely due to injuries and what not. He’ll probably make between 100k and 200k as a rookie with the potential for more if he plays well. It’s easy to see why he wanted to leave.

Hot female gymnast with 1M followers before this all started. She's NOT the norm and a massive outlier.

Because she’s hot and has a social media following not entirely related to gymnastics.

She actually the poster child for why it is BS they couldn’t make money of NIL.

Excited for Cam, Watford, and Smart. 99% of fans can't fathom how how impossible it is to get drafted in the NBA. The global population is 7 billion. The NBA has roughly 350 players counting reserves. 60 players are drafted every year. If you sign any kind of NBA contract, or contract with a pro team from another country it's really amazing.

Further, college is not for everyone. It didn’t take me to figure I really didn’t want to go to class.

But I stuck it out and I am typing this from a lounge chair on the beach!!

Based on Watfords performance this past year , he should immediately learn a little Greek or Spanish.

but these two way contracts often end up in the nba in year one (at least for a little) and are looking at 6 figures.

Okay you’re grossly overestimating how many of those guys end up in the league. It’s still very hard for a 2 way guy to get on an NBA roster, even in year 1. It typically takes a little time. Also, there are some outliers, but typically you don’t have any guys going from the g-league, and becoming mainstays in the NBA. Just hard to happen.

Why? They will both sign with teams overseas or for the G league, they wouldn’t have done any better by returning to school. NBA drafts off of potential, not production. And a year older just makes guys less attractive to teams.
